Moultrie County coroner Lynn Reed was the official fish weigher during the Moultrie County Sheriff Dept.’s eighth annual crappie tournament last weekend. At least one member of the 160 participating teams was required to be a part of a law enforcement agency to participate in the tourney. Top local fishers were retired state trooper Jim Davis of Sullivan and Elliott Yeakel who earned sixth place.
Matt Powell was a member of one of the two student teams playing donkey basketball against teams made up of firemen and EMTs recently at Lovington High School. Members of the winning student team who played the EMT team for the championship were Travis Moser, April Markham, Chastity Smith, Darren Powell, Steve Phillips and Amber Workman.
Bethany home run hitters Brandon Yoder and Andrew Hagerman helped pace the Mustangs to back to back baseball victories over Teutopolis and Lovington this week. Yoder homered in both Mustang victories while Hagerman smashed two in an 11-0 win over Lovington Tuesday.
Three Sullivan students have been invited to attend the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy’s 1991 Summer ‘AD’ Ventures in Mathematics, Science and Technology programs. Sullivan middle school students Adam Uhlarik and Anthony Armstrong and Sullivan High School student David Elder are among the 420 students selected to participate in the program.
