Sullivan baseball took a disappointing 5-3 loss at home versus Clinton Thursday.
Brett Tuttle pitched four strong innings and departed with a one run lead in the fifth. Zach Sowers looked dominant in relief of Tuttle until the top of the seventh when Clinton managed three runs.
Head coach Troy Rogers said the team right now is battling. “We just got to get some confidence back. We owe Pana for last year so we got some fuel there. But we need to remember to play this game with intensity and let it happen. We have got some guys pressing a little bit.”
Clinton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a pair of two out infield singles were followed by a double in the gap to right center. Sullivan has bounced back after early deficits numerous times this season, but being in a hole early makes it tough. “We are struggling getting rid of that one bad inning that gives them a couple runs. We have had one of those it seems like the past three conference games. It was not a blow up inning, but we gave them a couple outs, and they took advantage of it. When you are playing tight ball games those extra outs tend to hurt.”
