Several ribbons were awarded during the Festival of Stars sand sculpture contest Saturday in Sullivan. In the preschool category Emilee Sanders won first place for her volcano sculpture, and Andrew Crawford, with the help of his brother Chris won second place. Alex Knobloch and Matt Mossman won first place for their castle in the K-2 category. Second place went to Dane White. In the 3-5 category, Lori Halford won first place for her castle, and Casey Matthews and Norah Hanford won second for their turtle.
Seventy-eight runners participated in the Festival of Stars 5K on Saturday. Participating from Sullivan were Brett Cordell, Don Cruit, Kevin Moran, Jake Haegen, Kim Miller, Brian McDowell, Mark Dickens, Steve Corzine, Michael Craig, Justin Wheeler, Dick Issacs, Patty Marlow, Carole Moore and Ann Dickens. Participating from Bethany were Ronald A. White and Anthony Baxter. Cordell, Haegen, Marlow and Moore all finished first place in their categories.
Two Sullivan High School Scholastic Bowl members have been named to the All-State team. Sullivan’s Matthew Stone and Keena Baumgartner have been named to the first time all-state team in scholastic bowl. Coach Ken Johnson is extremely pleased that two of his team members were named.
Lake Land College agriculture instructor Tom Reedy has been awarded the 1991 Faculty of the Year award sponsored by the Lake Land Faculty Assn.
Joyce Cocksure was elected 1992 president of Sullivan American Legion Post 68 during a meeting May 6. Serving with her will be Darcel Vitzhum, first vice-president; Barbara Stinson, second vice-president; Ann Shaw, secretary; Genevieve Sutton, treasurer; Charlotte Stone, chaplain; Joan Taylor, historian; and Marie Mossman, sergeant at arms. The group also decided the theme for the Fourth of July parade will be “We Are Proud….”
