Voter Mass Mailing Not from County
•June 22, 2016•
On June 10 there was a mass mailing for voter registration which did not come from the County Clerk’s office but from “The Voter Participation Center” out of Chicago. Enclosed with the center’s mailing was a pre-addressed envelope to the Moultrie County Clerk.
The Moultrie County Clerk’s office has received several of these forms from individuals that state they have moved many years ago, that the relative to whom the form was mailed is deceased, and even to a person who has property in a trust in which the pre-printed name on their form has their last name as Trust. “It appears that the county clerk’s office was involved with these mailings; however, that is not the case,” England states. “We have no control or say in what The Voter Participation Center does and suggest that if a person receives the mailing from The Voter Participation Center in error that they look at the bottom of the letter for their code to unsubscribe to future mailings from the center.”
According to the letter from The Voter Participation Center, the center will be monitoring the Illinois voter file records in eight weeks to see whether the individual has mailed their form to the county clerk’s office for registration.
As suggested by England, if you want to unsubscribe to future mailings from the center, you must contact the center with your code. The county clerk’s office cannot unsubscribe for individuals. England stated that if a person receives this letter and they are not registered to vote and wish to register, by all means complete the form and mail to the clerk’s office. Also, if a form is addressed to someone who has moved or is deceased, England asks that the form be sent to the clerk’s office with a brief note telling of the circumstance.
