SOV Pole Vaulter Qualifies for State Track and Field Meet

Redskin Jadon Nuzzo pole vaulted 13 feet 7 inches for second place in the IHSA Class 2A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional at Moose Handlin Track May 18.
His finish qualified him for the State Track and Field meet at O’Brien Field on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston Saturday.
The Sullivan-Okaw Valley track and field team did not qualify any other athletes for state but placed six athletes and all four relays in the top 15 spots.
Josh Ernst threw the discus 118 feet 9 inches for 10th place.
Luke Bowman ran the 100-meter dash in 11.82 for 12th place and the 200-meter dash in 24.78 for 19th place.
Leighton Burcham long jumped 19 feet for 11th place and triple jumped 36 feet 11.5 inches for 15th place.

Charlie Goss ran the 88 meter in 2:05.83 for 13th place.
JT Bland took 14th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53.54, and Isaiah Plank followed in sixteenth at 4:55.44.
The Redskins 3,200-meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 8:55.25, and the 800-meter relay team finished 11th at 1:41.31.
The 1,600-meter and 400-meter relay teams placed 12th with times of 3:42.10 and 48.00, respectively.
Last week the SOV track and field team also competed in the News Gazette Honor Roll Meet at Urbana High School.
Nuzzo again placed second in the pole vault, and Burcham took seventh in the long jump and triple jump.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Bland, Canaan, Christensen, Goss and Plank placed sixth.
