The Springfield budget battle has major implications in Moultrie County as state police and Department of Conservation personnel look at cuts. Some public aid offices are closing, and Dept. of Mental Health Funds to the Moultrie County Beacon are threatened.

William McNutt, partner in the Decatur law firm Lowe, Moore, Susler, McMutt and Wrigley, has been elected president of the Lincoln Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Named in memory of Abraham Lincoln, the council serves Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Tiger Cubs, Explorers and career awareness in Moultrie and eight surrounding counties.
The village of Lovington received honorable mention for nearly achieving 100 percent level maintaining the required levels of fluoride in the municipal drinking water.
