Remember When June 22, 1992
Initiated with a grant awarded Powers Elementary School and implemented through the Douglas-Moultrie Rural Health Outreach Project a program to assist parents to prepare children from birth through age five began in area schools. Goal of the program is to help children be developmentally prepared to start school ready to learn.
The “Return of Almost Anything Goes” returned to the football field in Lovington during the annual Kiwanis Club fish fry. “Anything Goes” teams from Arthur, Bethany, Sullivan and Lovington competed in a variety of events including pushing eggs with noses, cross country football field skiing, and forming a human caterpillar. The Lovington team included Rick Boddy, Carl Watkins, Beverly Powell, Darletta England, Steve Mechling, Heather Fisher, Mike Edwards, Tony Brown, Angie White and Kevin Franklin. It was coached by Tracy Garmon.
Bethany schools increased lunch prices by five cents and book rental fees by $2.50 following a recommendation by Supt. Steve Mitchell. He noted losses in the lunch program and increased textbook prices led to the action.
