The Sullivan-Okaw Valley football team lost to Cumberland 43-7 Friday to drop its record to 0-2.
The game began with Cumberland’s Ryan Yaw returning the kickoff for an 83-yard touchdown. A 2-point conversion gave the Pirates an 8-0 led.
Cumberland scored 21 more points in the first quarter to put the game away.
“I think we put ourselves in a lot more favorable situations offensively and defensively,” said SOV coach Andy Kerley. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t get off the field on third and long on defense and couldn’t move chains on third downs offensively. I think we played a much better game defensively but just couldn’t make plays in key situations.”
