The Sullivan school district will levy $66,000 less than the previous year in the coming tax year under a tentative tax levy approved by the board. Two reasons for the reduction include lower amounts needed for bonds and interest and the equalized assessed valuation increased by $4 million in Moultrie County. The education fund levy increased by $44,000 and building space lease $2,000.
Patti Ketchmark, chair of the Sullivan Hometown Holiday Splendor committee, announced the city has purchased 21 eight foot Starflake lights to mark the Sullivan Starflake Trail. This is part of Sullivan’s commitment to join the Festival of Lights at the Inn at Eagle Creek. Findlay and Shelbyville Starflake Trails open Nov. 9 and 16 respectively with Sullivan joining on Nov. 19. A holiday lighting contest with a grand prize of $1000 is being held in Moultrie and Shelby counties for residents who live along the rural route of the Lake Shelbyville Festival of Lights’ Starflake Trail.
