The Sullivan girls’ basketball team dropped a game to Clinton Thursday but defeated Cerro-Gordo in the last regular season game, then won its first-round game in the IHSA Class 2A Arthur Regional Monday night.
Monday night in Arthur, the No. 5 seeded Sullivan knocked off the No. 10 seeded Meridian 61-34.
The Redskins took over from the start, outscoring Meridian 17-2 in the first quarter and 15-8 in the second quarter.
Sullivan extended that lead by 10 in the third quarter for a 48-16 lead.
“I thought we played a great game defensively until the fourth quarter,” said Sullivan coach Sheri McCain. “We held them to just 13 points for three quarters, but the girls who came off the bench were a little complacent defensively and allowed more points than I would have liked.”
Esther Miller scored a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
