Remember When? 12-5-2018
25 Years Ago This Week
Sullivan American Legion Post 68 helped secure medals for two veterans commemorating the 75th Anniversary of World War I. Marion W. “ Snapper” Yates, 94, formerly of Sullivan, and John H. Moffet, 98, of Windsor are the only known living WWI veterans living in the area.
The American Legion also held a flag-burning ceremony. A photo of Stanley Guin accepting a tattered flag from Steven Keown for burning is shown. Steven’s father Mike, and brother Phillip were present as well.
Jed Shasteen of Sullivan earned the distinguished honor of being named an Eagle Scout during a ceremony at the First Christian Church. Shasteen, the son of Mike and Ruth Shasteen, joins his father as one of the elite recipients of the highest rank in scouting. Mike Shasteen, who now serves as Jed’s scoutmaster, became an Eagle Scout in 1961.
