Eleanor Elizabeth Peadro
Eleanor Elizabeth Peadro, 94, passed away peacefully on Jun 9, 2019 at her residence in Belvedere Commons in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Elizabeth was born on May 2, 1925 in Cairo, IL, to L. Oard and Beulah Rendleman Sitter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Peadro, and her brother, Lloyd E. Sitter, as well as her parents. She is survived by one son, R. Roger Peadro (wife, Annette); six grandchildren, Brad Peadro (wife, Claire), Brent Peadro (wife, Lynn), Bethanie Peadro, Joel Mead, Erin Spring (husband, Kyle), and Taylor Mead; and, two great grandchildren, Caroline Spring and Colin Spring.
Elizabeth was known primarily as an English (and Spanish) teacher and a faithful coach’s wife to Bob, her husband of48 years. She grew up in Anna, IL, and was the valedictorian of her high school class. She attended Southern Illinois University, but graduated from the University of Illinois, achieving an academic honor of Phi Beta Kappa. After college, she started her teaching career at Maroa-Forsyth, IL high school. A few years later, Elizabeth moved to Sullivan, IL to teach, where she and Bob fell in love and were married on July 20, 1952.
After Roger was born in 1957, Elizabeth took a break from full-time teaching and was a substitute teacher for many schools in the Sullivan/Mattoon area. During the early 1970’s, however, she also taught at Lovington High School. Elizabeth and Bob enjoyed attending ballgames, especially at Sullivan and Lovington, and when Bob retired from teaching/coaching, they took numerous bus tours within the United States. They also enjoyed visiting their grandchildren in Kentucky and Florida.
Elizabeth was passionate and diligent in her teaching, always wanting her students to achieve their best. She was a life-long learner and kept current with newspapers and magazines up until her passing. Although she grew up Southern Baptist, she was a long-time member of First Christian Church, Sullivan, IL, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Christian Church in Sullivan, IL or First Christian Church in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
