Construction of a sixteen classroom addition to the Sullivan Elementary School commenced last fall. The classroom addition will allow the 5th grade students to return to SES. Fifth grade students have been housed in the middle school for the past several years due to a lack of classroom availability at SES. Login or Subscribe to read the rest of this story.
The classroom addition will also provide increased space for special education students and preschool students. The elementary school was originally designed for an expansion, and the new wing will be nearly identical to the existing two wings and look as though it was a part of the original structure. Groundwork and the shell of the structure has been completed with a goal of being weathertight by the first week of February. On December 20th, all elementary students and staff had an opportunity to sign one of two steel I-beams which will be a part of the structure for years to come. They were also able to witness the beams being set on December 21st. The anticipated completion date for the addition is early August. The most recent 5-year average of students served in Sullivan Schools is up more than 75 students annually, or 7%, compared to the previous 5-year average.
