Four teams traveled to Sullivan last Tuesday (3/19) to kick off the outdoor track season for girls’ track. Despite several high placed finishes, the Lady Redskins couldn’t keep up with the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis.
Veteran coach Kali Taylor believes though that this will be a fun year in which underclassmen serve as the majority on a team that features just one senior. “I’m very excited to see what this young group is going to accomplish as we begin the season.”
Coach Taylor says this could be her most talented group she’s seen across the board. “I’ve waited a long time to have enough athletes to fill every event, and it’s an exciting opportunity for these kids to be a part of the success that we have had in girls track over the last several years.” And they did have athletes in nearly every event but pole vault. Not only that, several found themselves within the top 10 and routinely in the top five. Freshman Julia Moody was just barely edged out from first place in the 1600m by an ALAH runner. The time difference between first place and Moody’s second place was just under three seconds.
