Eleventh Annual Spores N’ More Mushroom Festival April 18, 19
The 11th annual Spores N’ More Mushroom Festival will be held at Lake Shelbyville Friday and Saturday April 18 and April 19.
The mushroom festival boasts a variety of activities sponsored by Heartland RC&D, Shelby County Office of Tourism, and area communities surrounding Lake Shelbyville including Findlay, Shelbyville, Sullivan, and Windsor. All activities are open to the public.

The festival will kick off Friday with a reception and mushroom soup dinner at the American Legion in Findlay. Dinner includes rich mushroom soup, spaghetti, baked potatoes, hot dogs, and desserts. Guest speakers for the evening include Andy Miller of the Illinois Natural History Survey and Dr. Methuen, author of “False Morels”.
In cooperation with the Lake Shelbyville, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Lake Shelbyville Area Morel Championship Hunt will be conducted Saturday. Registration is required to participate in the hunt. Registration will also be available the day of the event beginning at 7 a.m. in Wyman Park in Sullivan. Buses will leave to go to the mushroom hunt site at 8:45 a.m. The duration of the mushroom hunt will be 2.5 hours. The overall grand champion mushroom hunter will receive a $100 cash prize. Prizes will be given for the largest mushroom of the day as well as the smallest mushroom. Hunters will also compete for first place and second place in men’s, women’s, and children’s divisions. The Spores N’ More Morel Mushroom Auction will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Wyman Park in Sullivan. Registration for the mushroom auction begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. in Wyman Park.
