A playoff dress rehearsal for Knights went down to the wire versus the Cumberland Pirates on Friday night. The Pirates who needed a win to qualify for the playoffs jumped out to an early lead forcing the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights to rally from behind for the victory.
On the first big play of the game Cumberland took advantage of a tipped pass by Tyler Schuring just as the Knights were threatening to score. With under a minute left in the first quarter the Pirates came up with the first turnover of the contest, flipping the field by returning an interception all the way down inside the Knights’ 10-yard line. On the next play the Pirates’ quarterback Monte Wolke surged in for a touchdown on a QB sneak. However, the Pirates failed on the two point conversion attempt leading 6-0 with 11 minutes to go in the first half.
