Funeral services for Merrill E. Pound, 84, of Decatur were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial with military rites by the Bethany American Legion Post # 507 was in Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
He passed away at 9:10 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2014.
Merrill was born November 17, 1929 in Sullivan, a son of Frank and Ruth Johnson Pound. He married Myrta Clare Scott January 19, 1950 in Moultrie County. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from A.E. Staley-Tate & Lyle in Decatur after more than 40 years. Merrill was involved in starting up new plants around the world. He also owned and operated Elmer’s Ole Time Inn in Decatur. Merrill was also a co-owner with his wife Myrta of Clare’s Family Restaurant in Decatur. He was a member of Jonathan Creek Christian Church in Sullivan and Staley’s Retired Forman’s Club.
