The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team defeated Arcola Friday and then lost to Dieterich in the Little Okaw Valley Shootout in Cumberland Saturday, Feb 11.
Against Arcola, the Knights doubled the Purple Riders in the first quarter 16-8, before tacking on three more for a 34-23 halftime lead.
ALAH kept the pressure on in the third quarter, outscoring Arcola 14-8 in the third quarter and at one point enjoyed a 19-point lead.
“We played a great first three-quarters of the game, maybe the best basketball we played all year,” said ALAH coach Dale Shuring.
Then the momentum changed, and the Riders went on a fourth-quarter run that eventually tied the game at 54 with just more than a minute left in regulation.
“We were in it physically, we were in it emotionally and we were in it mentally,” said Shuring, “and then we got into a situation where I think we got comfortable and thought the game was in the hand, and they made a great comeback.”
