News Progress Posted on October 29, 2025 by webmasterOctober 29, 2025

2015

When Brianna Mahon graduated from Sullivan High School in 2008, her need for speed had already taken over the teenage honor student’s life. Professional MotoCross racing dominated her weekends then, but today she’s getting into bigger machines. Mild-mannered hairdresser by day, and on the weekends, she gets behind the wheel of the monster Jam Truck Scooby Doo in nationwide events.

The Sullivan IGA ‘Round Up’ may be an annual fundraiser, but for the Moultrie County Food pantry, it helps lighten a big load this time of year, providing 200 Thanksgiving dinner baskets, which is a recurring need. “ A lot of the Thanksgiving baskets we give away go to the elderly,” said Moultrie County Food Pantry Coordinator Kristy Dawson.

Since Breast Cancer Awareness month has been celebrated during October, there’s still time to donate $1 to show support with a pink ribbon at the Wild Hair Salon.

Greatness comes from humble beginnings; it comes from grunt work.” (Ryan Holiday). Proof of that adage is Sullivan’s Mid-State Tank Company, which recently received a grant for $50,000 from the Made in Illinois Grant Program, administered by IMEC with funding from the Department of Economic Opportunity. The check presentation/award ceremony, tour of the facilities, and award speeches were held on Wednesday, October 22nd, at Mid-State Tank’s facilities. Senior Expo a success

News Progress

Photo Submitted

On Friday, September 4th, Mid-Illinois Senior Services (MISS) was abuzz with activity and a good time was had by all during MISS’ yearly Senior Expo. Local businesses attended to provide helpful information to local seniors, and the staff of MISS was on hand to answer questions, sign people up for services (including Medicare Part ‘D’ enrollments which are fast approaching), as well as provide a free lunch. Many local businesses and individuals donated a wide variety of goods to be sold at the Expo, with all funds raised going directly back into the services MISS provides to local seniors and a much-needed roof repair.
