First Mid Updates Name And Logo

News Progress Posted on July 11, 2018 by webmasterJuly 11, 2018

•July 11, 2018•

First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust (First Mid) has introduced a new logo for the bank and a shorter name that better reflects its growth and the changing financial services environment.
First Mid Bank & Trust will be the company’s official bank charter name, and the logo is a refreshed and more contemporary symbol.
“Our growth has already taken us beyond central Illinois and even out of the state,” said First Mid CEO Joe Dively. “The name and logo were geographically limiting and no longer representative of our current and future market areas. Our customers have referred to us as “First Mid” for many years and that won’t change, but the look is new, and we’re excited about the forward momentum it represents.”
To retain First Mid’s history, the new logo contains elements of the past, such as the familiar gold horizontal lines. The image is designed to be solid and enduring, with the blue columns signifying the growth of customers, employees and the company. The First Mid Bank & Trust name is one of a family of companies operating under the holding company, First Mid-Illinois Bancshares, Inc., including First Mid Insurance Group and First Mid Wealth Management. Letter to the Editor 7-11-2018

News Progress Posted on July 11, 2018 by webmasterJuly 11, 2018

Dear Editor:

In a June 29 Herald and Review article, “All eyes turn to vacancy”, the writer opined that Roe v Wade should be overturned. She had an abortion 13 years ago but has regretted that decision.
I assume she was relieved and happy at the time that she had the freedom to make her choice.
Now she would deny other women the same right of choice. How sublimely selfish! Nothing quite so righteous as a reformed whatever, as the saying goes.
Make no mistake - the issue here is a woman’s right to choose what is best for her circumstances. Read More

For Humanity’s Sake Let’s Open the Conversations We Need to Have

News Progress Posted on July 11, 2018 by webmasterJuly 11, 2018

Editor’s Note: Kathy Best, Sullivan native and Missoulian editor, wrote this insight into the Annapolis newsroom shooting. She touches on issues that affect Moultrie County as well as the rest of the country.
Ten days ago a man was arrested for walking into a newsroom in Annapolis, Maryland – a newsroom much the same size as the Missoulian – and systematically gunning down five journalists.
As a newspaper editor, I’ve worked on coverage of mass shootings at a college campus, in a high school and even in a suburban coffee shop. The horror — and the fear — inflicted on the community by those deaths had always been unimaginable. Until June 28.
I didn’t know the reporters, editors and sales associate killed in Annapolis. But I was intimately familiar with their world. The smells: cheap coffee, a hint of pizza spice, the musty bouquet of old paper. The sounds: the quiet clack of computer keyboards, the quirky ringtones of cell phones, the laughter over the latest goofy online headline. And, most of all, the mission, the thing that brought each of them together in that place.
My own path to journalism wasn’t direct, in part because I knew exactly what I would be getting into. My parents owned a weekly newspaper that my Dad published, my Mom edited and they both wrote for. Read More

Obituaries 7-11-2018: William Dulik

News Progress Posted on July 11, 2018 by webmasterJuly 11, 2018

William Dulik

William (Bill...Jim...Jim Dandy) Thomas Dulik, 80, passed away June 25, 2018. He fought a courageous battle against cancer, but in the end his heart couldn’t endure the pain.
The son of Tom and Betty Dulik, he was born in Ronco, Pa. where he lived until he joined the Air Force. His first assignment was to England where he met his wife of almost 60 years Rosemary (Jean), and they had four children together. They lived in various states until he retired from the Air Force after 20 years and settled in Decatur, Illinois until he moved to Little Rock, Ark. to take a position at the Little Rock Airport. He moved to Sullivan three years ago to be closer to friends and family and less traffic. He was a devoted husband to Jean and was looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in September. Read More
