Billy Woolsey

Billy Woolsey, 56, of Sullivan passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday in Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graham Chapel Cemetery in Allenville with military honors conducted by Sullivan American Legion Post #68.  Read More

OV Students Attend NJLB Event
Students from Okaw Valley attended the No Job Left Behind business luncheon April 20 at the Sullivan VFW. Students were able to meet with local business personnel and listen to testimonials highlighting  a variety of local businesses. Pictured are those who attended along with Sullivan Chamber intern Kristy Burford, who is currently a senior at OVHS, participating in the job shadow program.

OVHS Helps CORP
Okaw Valley students helped out with the Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville on Monday. The students spread 30 cubic yards of mulch, cleaned up the flower beds at the visitor center and Coon Creek, and trimmed back and cleaned the trials at Coon Creek. It was a beautiful day and a great opportunity for students to give back to the community.

Cautions Politicians About Rumors

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England announced her run for reelection, while dispelling “coffee shop talk”, at the April 13 county board meeting.

England, who has been the Democrat County Clerk in Moultrie County since 2001, made the announcement while clearing the air of some political rumors circulating the local circuit.

“I am going to run in 2018,” England proclaimed. “I need to clear the air about some coffee shop talk that has been going around for the past couple of weeks,” she said, addressing the eight Republican/one Democrat board. Read More

SOV Girls’ Track Team Places in Two Meets

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley girls’ track and field team competed in two meets this week.

In the Tolono Girls’ Invite Thursday, the Redskins placed three athletes in the top 10.

Laine Cameron placed seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.40.

Zoe Ray and Natalie Drury placed ninth in the long jump and high jump, respectively.

Ray jumped 14 feet and 8 inches, and Drury jumped four feet and six inches. Read More

Lovington Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Lovington Easter Egg hunt was held Saturday, April 8 in the village park. Children from five age groups gathered at the park, hunting for Easter eggs and prizes. Grand prizes included a new bicycle giveaway sponsored by Sparrows of Lovington. Boys’ and girls’ bike winners include Tyler Wulff and Landry Wiley (1-3 yrs); Gavin Wylie and Isabella Black (kindergarten); Owen Hilton and Karah Helmuth (first and second); Zachary Barrett and Kikyo Brent (third and fourth); Colton Taylor and Morgan Walters (fifth and sixth).

SOV Boys’ Track Takes Top Spots in Macon County

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley boys’ track and field team competed in two meets this past week.

Thursday, the Redskins competed in the 13-team Macon County meet.

Several Redskins finished in the top three spots in their finals.

Jadon Nuzzo won the pole vault at 13 foot 1 inch, and Logan Pedigo followed in second at 12 feet and 1 inch.

Payton Westjohn won his finals heat with a time of 24.98, while Luke Bowman and Cullen Dyer were second and third in the heats.

Dyer also placed third in his finals head in the 400 meter at 1:00.93. Read More

Three Wins for Sullivan Softball Team

The Sullivan softball team finished the week with a 3-2 record.

The Redskins defeated Central A&M, Arcola and Shelbyville and lost to Clinton and Monticello.

Central A&M Friday

Irie Dulin recorded four RBIs on two hits to help the Bulldogs overtake the Raiders 14-9 in an error filled game. Sullivan scored seven runs in the first inning and two in the second to take an early lead and did not look back.

Jordan Bassett, Brook Tuttle and Dulin each had two hits. Bassett also had two RBIs. Madison Wall pitched seven innings and struck out four. The Raiders made eight errors while Sullivan had four.

Moultrie and Douglas Home and Community Education members Marilyn Dufford of Sullivan and Josephine Marner of Arthur attended the 92nd Annual Illinois Association for Home and Community Education Conference at the Embassy Suites East Peoria Hotel and Riverfront Conference Center March 14-16.

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
