Findlay High School Alumni Banquet

The annual Findlay High School Alumni Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 8.

Held in the former Findlay High School gym, which is now know as the Okaw Valley Middle School, classes honored include 1947, 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, and 1997.  It is the 50th anniversary of the class of 1967.

Reservations are due April 3.  Those who did not receive an invitation or need more information may contact Chris Tippit at 217-756-8207.

Celebrate World Kidney Day

Decatur Memorial Hospital will host a free educational seminar on World Kidney Day, Thursday, March 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the DMH classrooms. Pediatric Kidney Specialist, Nazia Kulsum-Mecci, MD, from SIU Medicine will be the featured guest speaker.

Mohammed Dawood, MD, Mohammad Hasnain, MD, and M. Mustansar Qureshi, MD, all kidney specialists from the DMH Medical Group, will also be on hand at the event. Refreshments will be served and seating is limited. Call 217-876-2850 to register, or visit dmhcares.com/events.

Ina Ruth Brooks, 92, of Bourbonnais, formerly of Sullivan, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 6 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Keller Cemetery in Lovington.  Read More

Fishing habitat is serious business so it was no surprise to Chip Christensen when so many fishermen showed up for a habitat build March 4.

Chip’s Marine service bays south of Sullivan were converted into an assembly line for building some 50 fish habitats for Lake Shelbyville.

In this joint venture with the Illinois Department of Conservation and Army Corp of Engineers volunteers from a variety of clubs joined individual sport fishermen to build and place the artificial habitats in the lake. Read More

Warmest February

All those days with temperatures in the 60s and 70s have paid off: February was the warmest February on record for Illinois, according to State Climatologist Jim Angel at University of Illinois’ Illinois State Water Survey.

The statewide average temperature for February was 40.5 degrees, 9.6 degrees above normal, beating the old record of 40.0 degrees set back in 1998.

February was dry too. The statewide average precipitation for February was 0.7 inches, 1.36 inches below normal and the ninth driest February on record.

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
