Sally J. Weakley, 68, of Edwardsville, formerly of Sullivan, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 in her home in Edwardsville.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 28 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan. Read More

Dive-Rescue Team Fish Fisherman from Lake Shelbyville

First responders from Moultrie County Dive-Rescue, Fire and Ambulance and IDNR were called to fish a fisherman out of Lake Shelbyville Sunday.

•March 1, 2017•

A 41 year Taylorville man suffered severe hypothermia after falling into Lake Shelbyville from his fishing boat Sunday morning.

Moultrie County ESDA Dive-Rescue Team commander Clay Brush received the call at 10:41a.m. Feb. 26.

The fisherman had to cling to a tree while in the water for half an hour. Wind had blown his boat too close to the shoreline where the tree that he was clinging to for life knocked him into the water.  Read More

LLC Announces Fall 2016 Honors List

Conference Honors for Area Basketball Players

Several players from Okaw Valley and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball teams earned Little Okaw Valley Conference NW honors this week.

County Schools to Share Proposed Sales Tax Revenue

Sullivan Community Unit District 300 school board is hoping that collecting a one percent sales tax could generate funds for the schools of Moultrie County.

David Pistorius of First Midstate, Inc. explained during a January meeting that the sales tax revenue generated could be used toward facility use and or construction. Not eligible are operational costs, salaries, moveable equipment, or computers.

The one percent maximum level could produce as much as one million dollars revenue for the county schools. Read More

FFA Petting Zoo Draws Enthusiastic Crowd

A liquid nitrogen and like magic Maddie Atchison and Irie Dulin created Dippin’ Dots for eager taste testers at the Sullivan FFA Week open house.

Last week was National Future Farmers of America FFA, and the Sullivan FFA chapter petting zoo and open house was visited by more than 900 people.

All three Sullivan school attendance centers plus Sullivan preschool and folks from the public were treated to local chapter exhibits as well as Scovill Zoo which contributed more exotic animals to impress those coming to pet an alligator or python for the first time.

During the afternoon visitors were treated to a Dippin Dots treat following a liquid nitrogen demonstration.

It was hatching day for the local chicks as candling the eggs produced fresh hatches for the young students.

Expanding into the outer garage a giant schnauzer, horses, goats, pigs and a variety of animals were provided by FFA Chapter members for petting.  Read More

Senior Connor Cloyd of the Okaw Valley Timberwolves and Shandon Herschberger of the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights will play in the all-star game March 25 in Cumberland. Read More

ALAH Knights End Season at Regional Tournament

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement and Arthur Christian but could not carry that momentum into a win at the Pana Class 2A regional.

ALAH fell to Toledo-Cumberland in the regional 61-32 to end its season.

The Knights trailed 13-4 after the first quarter and did not recover.

Shandon Herschberger led the Knights with 11 points and two assists, and Kobe Wells and Will Cohan each scored five points.

Colton Romine collected a team-high four rebounds, and Marcus Vanausdoll added a team-high three steals. Each player scored a basket. Read More

Lovington Kindergarten Pre-Registration

Preregistration of kindergarten students for the 2017-2018 school year will be held noon-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 in the Lovington Grade School office.

Any student who will be five years of age by September 1, 2017 and resides in the Lovington Grade School District is encouraged to attend. Parents are asked to bring the child’s birth certificate to preregistration.

Children in the Lovington preschool program this year need not attend, but the form sent home with your child should be returned to the office.

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
