Kristie Russell has officially announced her intent to seek the Republican nomination for Moultrie County Clerk in the upcoming election.
Russell has lived in Moultrie County since 1997 and is a 1999 graduate of Bethany High School. She spent 18 years working in long-term care before earning an associate degree in business administration. She is currently employed as a retail supervisor at a local bank.

Chili Cookoff: “Fall in Love with Lovington” Farmer’s Market will be hosting a Chili cook-off on Saturday, September 27th, at the Thomas L. Conn Park in Lovington. Chili entries for judging must be dropped off by 11:00 a.m. Entry fee is $10.00. There will be a People’s Choice award. Chili tasting will be by donation.
Movie in the Park: On Friday, September 26th, the Lovington Park Board will be hosting a ‘Movie in the Park’ night at the Thomas L. Conn Community Park, 355 Maple St, Lovington. Concessions open at 7:00 p.m., and the movie, “Lili and Stitch,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Children under thirteen must be accompanied by an adult, and remind children during the movie that there is no playing on the park equipment, and that they are there to enjoy the movie. “Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”

September is National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate and support individuals on the path to recovery from substance use disorders. The Moultrie County Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) Council invites the public to join in the recovery walk. Recovery month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery from substance use disorder.

The monthly meeting of the Moultrie County Historical & Genealogy Society was held on September 18th, with 32 members present.
Speakers for September were from the three American Legion Posts in Moultrie County. Mike Keown from Sullivan Post# 68 led off by giving everyone a history of the Legion, starting in 1919 when the Doughboys came home from Europe. This service organization was founded to help veterans with jobs, medical services, and the widows of fallen veterans.
