Pictured above is the Clore “mansion”, which appeared in a March 1929 issue of the Lovington Reporter. According to the article, it was built in 1862 by “Wild Jim” Clore, who formerly lived on the site where he bought a double cabin from William Martin. Mr. Martin was known as the second man who built a home in that vicinity in 1829. People familiar with Lovington know that this home is located on the west side of town off the Spfd Rd. (route 32) It still stands today and has been home to many families. Please submit photos to the News Progress for future consideration. Originals will be saved for return or forwarded to Moultrie County Historical Society. If you have any other information, please contact the Moultrie County Historical Society at 217-728- 4085.
