Although the scoreboard read a 30-point defeat for the Redskins boys’ basketball team Monday night against St. Anthony, not everything was as bad as it seemed.
Sullivan kept the deficit manageable before the fourth quarter, staying within eight points the majority of the way. At the start of the fourth the wheels fell off the wagon.
Bulldogs junior Drew Gibson went on a personal 7-0 run—three layups and a free throw to finish — to start what would end as St. Anthony’s 21-2 run to finish the game. The rest was history thanks to their length and 1-2-2 press defense. Read More

Sullivan basketball took their third loss Saturday 52-28 versus the 3-0 Jersey Community Panthers. A tight game early got away from the Redskins after junior guard Brett Tuttle exited in the second quarter with a lower leg injury.
The matchup pitted Sullivan alum and Panthers head coach Stote Reeder against his brother Sullivan head coach Chet Reeder. Sullivan’s coach reflected on the rivalry after the game, “It is fun and it is tough because one of us has to lose, and we are each other’s biggest fan. But it is fun. This is the third time we have done it after going down there last year.”
Sullivan took advantage of a low scoring first quarter with a long two pointer from Queintan Britton at the two minute mark that gave the Redskins a 7-6 lead. Jersey responded with a layup as time was expired to led 8-7 after one period of play.
Sullivan opened up the second quarter with back to back turnovers before Tuttle hit a runner with six minutes left to bring Sullivan within three points at 12-9. Tuttle was then forced to exit the game due to injury. The loss proved to be costly with momentum turned towards the Panthers. Read More

Down three with 18 seconds to go, the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights faced a three point deficit with the ball, coming out of a timeout, against Oakwood Fithian, coached by former Sullivan grad Craig Black.
The game that was tied at halftime and saw the Knights come back from six down early in the fourth tied the game again with two minutes to go. It came down to the last shot.
Senior Shandon Herschberger got the ball at the top of the key and heaved up a desperation shot but got too much backboard, and the shot rolled forward off the rim, taking away a game the Knights had taken from their grasp. Read More

Access on the Dakota Access Pipeline’s Missouri River crossing was denied by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, but the battle to protect water is not over.
The Cannon Ball River encampment by the Standing Rock Sioux Water Protectors began in April with a few dozen Native Americans and grew into a 4500 person city at the northern entrance of the Sioux reservation by Thanksgiving.
What also grew were the actions against the 4500 peacefully encamped by hired pipeline security militia and local law enforcement.
Dawn Champiny watched the activities at Standing Rock’s encampment from her Venice, Fla. home until deciding to travel to North Dakota with daughter Ryan during the week of Thanksgiving. Read More
