Bethany will be holding a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 4th, at 12:00 p.m. at Crowder Park. Age groups will be three and under, four through eight, and nine and older.

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins recently finished their championship meets. The Dolphins had a strong showing at the Winter Regional Championships and were able to send nine swimmers to the State Championships.

March 25th, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Money March Madness. This event is geared towards children in grades 5 through 8. Shelby County State Bank will be speaking with youth about saving money, finance, and investing.
April 2nd, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.: Book Club. The book club’s concept is centered on reading a book with the themes of fresh starts and new beginnings.
April 18th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.: Princess Day. Children are encouraged to dress up in their princess best and listen to stories read by the Shelby County Fair Queens.

A new opportunity is threading its way into the community as the Moultrie‑Douglas 4‑H program announces the launch of its new 4‑H Sewing Club, designed for youth ages 8 to 18 who are eager to learn the fundamentals of sewing. The club will meet at the Arthur United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall beginning this spring.

Water issues continued to be on the agenda for the Sullivan City Council at their March 9 meeting, with how to find it and how to pay for it on the City Council’s mind.
Council member Chuck Woodworth, who oversees the water department, said a test well dug at the city’s well field had yielded good results. The city is waiting for approval of the water quality before moving any further ahead. And, Woodworth said, the drought that has caused the water shortage could be easing.
“They’ve downgraded the drought from extreme to severe,” Woodworth said. “I guess that’s good news.”

How much to pay Moultrie County’s elected officials was on the agenda for the Moultrie County board at their March 12 meeting.
The board has until 180 days before the election to vote on changes for officials like the County Clerk, County Circuit Clerk, Supervisor of Assessments and Treasurer. At Thursday night’s meeting, the board was asked to consider raising the Clerk and Treasurer, both on the fall ballot, to $70,000 with $1500 annual increases for the length of the terms.

On Thursday, April 9th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the community of Lovington will be holding its first of their seasonal Farmer’s Market in downtown Lovington. Items in the market will be fresh, local, and community-sourced. Items include farm fresh produce, homemade and baked goods, sweet treats, plants and flowers, and local crafts and handmade items.
The market will be held on the second Thursday of each month, from April through August. Vendor space is available, with no fees. For those interested in becoming a vendor, call (217) 521-7623 for more information.

Lake Land College is now accepting submissions for its fifth annual Spring Art Show, which will be held from Monday, April 20th, through Friday, April 24th. Students, staff, faculty, and community members are all invited to submit their art and participate in the event. Artists of all ages are welcome, as is art of all mediums, including painting and illustration, photography, graphic art, video, writing, sculpture, fabric and clothing, glass and metalwork, make-up, nail art, and more. Lake Land College will hold its annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 15th, in the campus Field House. Students who have or will finish their programs following completion of the Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 semesters will be recognized at the ceremony. To ensure all graduates are able to have their loved ones attend the in-person ceremony, Field House admission on the day of commencement will be limited only to guests wearing wristbands. Each graduate will receive four wristbands to share with the guests of their choice. Graduates will be able to pick up their wristbands at the Admissions & Records Office in the Luther Student Center from May 11th through 15th.
