Arthur/Lovington-Atwood/Hammond Knights volleyball started their match with Tuscola at Arthur High School August 27 strong, scoring 20 in the first match.

“I was extremely impressed with how the girls came out of the gates last night,” Knights coach Emily Crossman said.” They had more energy, communication, and execution than they have had all of pre-season. I was thrilled with how they worked together and got the job done.”

Tuscola was able to rebound to overcome the Knights 25-20 in the first game and 25-11 in the second, leaving the varsity team with a 0-1 early season record.

“However, once we started making a couple of errors our whole mindset changed,” she continued. “We went from a team wanting to win to a team that was scared to lose.”

Makayla Brown was strong with three kills for the night. Madison Brown and Janette Comstock each responded with three kills as well.

Brown and Comstock also contributed with four digs each, with Kim Davis leading the way on digs with five.

Madison Brown had five assists and an ace to round off a solid performance for the Knights. Erin Wildman also stepped up with four assists and one kill. Read More

•September 2, 2015•

It was a strong third quarter for the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights, but the 24 points scored wasn’t enough to offset the 60 scored by Villa Grove-Heritage team, Friday at Arthur.

Returning letterman Tyler Smith led scoring with two touchdowns while sophomore Marcus Vanausdoll rounded out scoring with a TD adding an additional two points on the conversion. Will Cohan kicked the extra point following a Smith touchdown to complete Knight scoring for the evening.

Smith led rushing for the Knights with 158 yards on five carries. Vanausdoll supplied 11 yards followed by quarterback Teddy Poe with eight yards.

Steven Stroh ran for two yards as did Adam Day, while Jordan Rettig and Will Cohan contributed a yard each for the ALAH team.

On a limited passing game Will Cohan and Teddy Poe each connected with Brad Miller and Vanausdoll for seven yards apiece.

Cohan kicked off four times for a 131 yard total and supplied a seven yard return.

Brendan Teak booted two punts for 74 yards.

Mason Lee had one fumble recovery, and Vanausdoll picked off a pass which led to a 55 yard return. Read More
