Illinois has Four Odd Tornado Seasons in a Row

News Progress Posted on April 1, 2015 by webmasterApril 1, 2015
April 1, 2015

The 2015 tornado season thus far in Illinois and the rest of tornado alley is incredibly quiet. However, this quiet start is no reason to relax if the past few years are a guide, according to Illinois State climatologist Jim Angel at the Illinois State Water Survey, University of Illinois.
No tornadoes have been reported this year, except in the far southeastern U.S. and one in California. Historically, the heart of the Illinois tornado season is March to June with two-thirds of tornadoes occurring during those months. In the past few years, however, Illinois has had more tornadoes occur outside of this period than inside.
In addition, many of these tornadoes have been concentrated in just a few days of the year. In fact, 69 percent of tornadoes in 2012-2014 occurred in just five days. These high concentrations can put extra strain on forecasting, warning, and recovery operations. Read More

There was quite a bit to like about Sullivan’s 8-0 win over Tuscola Tuesday evening.
For starters, the team defense kept the clamp down on the Warriors, backing up a solid performance at the mound by Zach Hrvol who went the distance allowing just three hits, one walk, and striking out six.
“He was very efficient all day,” said Sullivan head coach Troy Rogers. “He pitched ahead in the count and had great command of all of his pitches.” Read More

It seems as if winter has dragged on and on this year while I have been anxiously waiting for spring to arrive. Over the last couple of months, I have spent time outside pruning back fruit trees, berries, and grape vines hoping for a great harvest this coming year! I have gone through all sorts of seed catalogues dreaming of the different varieties of produce to try out in my garden, and after much thought, I came up with over 50 different varieties of tomatoes to test and over 30 different varieties of peppers (from sweet peppers to scorching hot).
I have been trying over the years to incorporate color throughout my garden in all seasons. This past month I have been so excited as I see some of the signs of spring—yellow, purple, and striped crocuses, my oxalis blooming, and buds of leaves starting along the fence, in the raised beds, and in all corners of my garden.
