Bethany’s village board passed a liquor ordinance that had been in the works since early July. Pending review by the village’s legal counsel, the ordinance would go into effect, at which point businesses would be able to seek licensing for liquor sales.

Moultrie County Board held a regular meeting on Thursday, October 12. Dennis Koch reported the result of the county audit for fiscal year end 2022 to board members. He said in the past the county’s financial statements modified cash basis accounting, a lot of federal agencies now require accrual basis accounting.
Koch noted there are a lot of expenditures that are reimbursed after they expend the money and many cases when money comes in the next fiscal year. They record them from as receivable from the various agencies which owe the county money. An adjustment is required to begin net assets of $ 934,755 having to do with ARPA money which did not get used until this year. Read More

The Sullivan Ace Hardware store may look a little different the next time you step inside. According to Kurt VanDeursen, co-owner of the Sullivan store, they started the remodel in June and expect it to take until January to get things exactly right. So far they have put in all new LED lighting, painted, put in new flooring and added a new department called the Backyard and Barbecue department. Read More

On Saturday, October 14, the annular solar eclipse crossed North, Central and South America. It was visible in parts of the United States, Mexico and many countries in South and Central America. According to science.nasa.gov, the solar eclipse began in Oregon at 9:13 am PDT and ended in Texas at 12:03 pm CDT.
A annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth. Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the star. According to science. nasa.gov this eclipse is often referred to as a “ring of fire”. Because the Sun is never completely covered, those observing must where proper eye protection at all time while watching an annular eclipse. Read More

Okaw Valley Community Unit School District invites all Veterans and their family members to a Veterans Day program at Okaw Valley High School in Bethany on Friday, November 10th. A breakfast will be provided to all who attend beginning at 8:15 am in the cafeteria and a short assembly will follow at 9:15am. The assembly will feature the Okaw Valley School District band and chorus students, and keynote speaker. The students and staff at Okaw Valley thank all Veterans for their acts of courage and devotion to the ideals that have served to guide our nation. Bethany: BASO’s annual Safe Trick or Treat will be on Saturday, October 28 from 4 to 6 pm on Main Street in Bethany. Several local businesses will have activity booths, games and of course candy. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Village of Bethany Police Station garage. There will also be a chalk art contest hosted by Bricks and Bones during the event at 121 E. Main Street. Winner will get a $50 gift card. The theme is Circus.
Findlay: On Friday, October 27 the Clarence Bixler Post 409 will have costume judging and a supper. Supper will be from 5 to 7 pm and the menu will include chicken and noodles, barbecue, peanut butter and cheese salad sandwiches, deviled eggs, cole slaw, desserts and drinks. Costume judging will begin at 7 pm. There are a variety of categories.
On Tuesday, October 31 from 5 to 7 pm there will be a trunk or treat at Findlay First Christian Church, 101 S. Wall Street in Findlay.
Lovington: Lovington will have their annual costume contest and trunk or treat on Friday, October 27. Business trick or treat will be from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Trunk or Treat on State Street from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Sign ups for costume contest are at 5:30 pm at the Lovington Firehouse. Costume judging will be at 6:00 pm. Residential trick or treating will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
Sullivan: Traditional Trick or Treat Hours will be Monday, October 30 and Tuesday, October 31 from 6-9 pm.
Safe Trick or Treat on the Square is Tuesday, October 31 from 4-6 pm with AMBUCS Halloween parade at 6:30 pm around the square.
Windsor: The Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a soup supper on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 7 pm. There will also be a costume parade and costume judging at 7 pm.
W.H.A.T. and Windsor Storm Library will have a trunk or treat event on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 6:30 pm on Maine Street.
Hope House is sponsoring activities at the Community Building starting at 5 pm with a movie later in the evening about 7:30 pm.

Fields of Faith will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 5:30 pm at Sullivan High School at Victory Field. The event is for seventh through 12th graders. There will be food, games and worship. Fields of Faith is a peer to peer movement where thousands of students from across the nation and world gather on their school’s athletic field to share faith stories and challenge each other to apply the Bible as their “game plan for life.”

There will be a Bethany Community Movie Night on Friday, October 20 at 7 pm outside at the Bethany Free Methodist Church, 312 W. Main in the parking lot. There will be free popcorn, hot chocolate and snacks. They will be watching a classic. The event is sponsored by Diggity Dawgs and BFMC.
