A financial emergency is any expense or loss of income you do not plan for, like a missed paycheck, a damaged roof, a flat tire, or a medical bill. According to FEMA, 6 out of 10 households in America experience at least one financial emergency in a year and about one-third of American families do not have any savings. Financial emergencies can result from health or medical care issues, household expenses, or natural disasters. I’ve read a lot of books about Illinois, but none mention Isaac Hill’s expedition for President Thomas Jefferson to explore the interior of Illinois along the third principal meridian. When I found Hill’s 1811 hand-drawn map reproduced in the reprint of the Montgomery and Bond County History, I gained new insight into the history of the Kaskaskia River Valley.

Sullivan High School is celebrating a few students as the semester begins to end for the holidays with the release of the News-Gazette All-Area Cross Country team. Sullivan High School’s very own Jacob Iacobazzi, a junior, making the All-Area Boys first team. There were also players who joined the honorable mentions list including Grant Martin, sophomore, and girls honorable mention Julia Moody, sophomore. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond also saw some honorable mentions, Ruby Burton, junior, and Kiberly Krutsinger, junior.

The Sullivan Redskins appear on the cusp of breaking through for this season. It is a season that comes with player changes, coaching changes, and a schedule that is aggressive. So it should come as no surprise that this year of building and rebuilding is progressing slowly. That doesn’t mean they should be discredited. If anything, it means that future opponents should beware.

After suffering their only loss of the season against Paris, the Lady Redskins fired back last week with a three game win streak, with two of those games being conference matchups. The first of the conference games, a contest against Heritage, was an easy victory for the ferocious Lady Redskin team.
