LLC celebrates nursing graduates

Graduating nurses received their pins at the 2024 Lake Land College Associate Degree Nursing pinning ceremony.

The Patient Advocate Award was presented to Emma Moran, Sullivan, for displaying professionalism and compassionate care in the Associate Degree Nurse program.

Receiving pins were Carleigh Bobbett of Findlay, Jerralee Goad, Emma Moran, Ashley Prideaux, Haley Rose and Danielle Standerfer all of Sullivan.

LLC honors John Deere program graduates

Lake Land College recently celebrated the John Deere Tech program graduates at an annual John Deere Tech banquet. The local student honored at the ceremony was Jacob Bettinger, of Lovington.

Trivia Night

Sullivan-Okaw Valley Football will host a Trivia Night Fundraiser on Saturday, June 1 at the Sullivan American Legion. Dinner will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. with trivia starting at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets for the AYCE Taco Bar are available at the SHS office, Moultrie County Treasurer’s office and Chip’s Marine. Trivia reservations may be made by contacting Stephanie Helmuth (217) 714-9028 or April Christensen-Stephens (217) 827-1726. The cost is $25 per person or $120 for a table of six. Sponsor tables are available for $330 and includes dinners and trivia for six and $120 worth of raffle tickets. During the evening there will also be raffles, 50/50, drawings and auctions.

Memorial Weekend Cruise In

The Sullivan Street Machine Association will host the Memorial Weekend Cruise In on Saturday, May 25 at 3 pm on the square in Sullivan. There will be a 50/50 drawing and dash plaques. The SHS Class of 1968 presented the Sixth Annual Redskin Achievement Award during the Decision Day program at the Sullivan High School on May 9. The 2024 recipients of the Redskin Achievement Award are Joleigh Tipsword, daughter of Cherise Tipsword and Benjamin Butler, son of Kelly House and Brian Butler. Each recipient received a certified check in the amount of $300 to help with any extracurricular activities of the student’s choosing.  Read More

Kids Fishing Tournament

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville and Friends of Lake Shelbyville is hosting a free fishing tournament for children 12 and under on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Opossum Pond. The pond is located near the entrance to the Opossum Creek Recreation Area. Participants must pre-register by calling (217) 774-3951 ext. 2, or email lakeshelbyville@usace.army.mil. Windsor Jr./Sr. High School hosted its prom on Saturday, May 3rd at Front Street Event Center in Gays. A coronation was held in which, Aubree Brown was crowned the 2024 Prom Queen and Billy Evetts was crowned the 2024 Prom King.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
