Girls track have strong showing in Monticello; Place sixth

Nineteen teams traveled to Monticello last Friday for the Monticello Lady Sages Invitational. Several of the athletes had state qualifying jumps and personal records. After the final starter pistol rang out across the Wilkey Sports Complex, the Sullivan girls found themselves securely in sixth place out of those nineteen teams. Read More

Sullivan Blue Dolphins Team Banquet Recognizes Swimmers Accomplishments

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins wrapped up their 2023/2024 short course season with a team banquet held at Building 1225 in Sullivan. The team holds this banquet each year to recognize each individual swimmer for their hard work throughout the season, as well as various team members that excelled in certain areas, and to give thanks to the coaches, board members, and other individuals that volunteer their time and energy to support the team. Thanks to IGA customers during a two week fundraiser campaign, the Sullivan American Legion has emerged $600 closer to their final $6,000 payment for this coming Fourth of July fireworks celebration.

As a child, Tiffany Hammer didn’t receive clothes from consignment stores or garage sales. “I was spoiled growing up. I always had new name brand clothes. It wasn’t until I grew up and had a family of my own, that I realized how expensive things are and how fast my daughter goes through clothes. But now my mother and I both love to go garage sale shopping together.” she explained. And since finding out this reality, Hammer says it is, in fact, her daughter that has been her inspiration for opening up Sullivan’s newest consignment store, The Clothesline. Read More

Windsor High School Prom 2024

Windsor High School Prom
Windsor High School’s Junior Class will be hosting Prom on Saturday, May 4th at Front Street Event Center in Gays from 7:30 to 10:30pm. Coronation will be held at 8:00pm. The community is invited to attend the coronation.

Superintendent Cheek and the BOE continues to build support for a future referendum

Superintendent Shannon Cheek continues to inform the public about the urgent need for renovations and repairs in the district’s school buildings. Ongoing work is underway at the Arthur Grade School restrooms. During the BOE meeting on April 17, Cheek shared photos showing plaster work needed at the Lovington Grade School. Additionally, he mentioned lingering HVAC and plumbing issues at the high school, which will continue to increase as the building ages.  Cheek warned that the plumbing and HVAC issues at the ALAH building could come with a significant price tag. Students attend Illinois FCCLA State Leadership Conference

Five members of the Sullivan High School Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America), along with their two advisors, attended the 2024 Illinois FCCLA State Leadership Conference held in Springfield, IL April 11-April 13th. This conference drew attendance from 79 FCCLA Chapters in the State, with 635 of the members in attendance as STAR and Proficiency Competitors, across 45 different events. Members in attendance from Sullivan were Sarina Voegel, Addison Brush, Linnea Graham, Kya Allen, and Claire Welch. Former SHS FCCLA Alumni, and current SHS FCCLA advisors Kali Taylor and Jennifer Voegel attended this three day conference with their students.  Read More

Monthly Quarter Madness

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their May Quarter Auction on Wednesday, May 8. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. The charity of the month is the Widows Sons. They are an international charitable organization who are freemasons who also enjoy riding motorcycles. This chapter is a 501c3 non-profit organization and covers most of Central Illinois. Most of their fundraising goes to individuals and families in the community, but they also donate to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and IMOS. Every penny they raise is spent on helping others.  

At the May Quarter Madness, vendors could include: Allie’s Gift and Garden, LLC; Scentsy, Hello Pink, Plunder Design, Titus Hog Farm, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Rodan & Fields, Thirty-One, and Avon plus different craft and food vendors with tumblers, t-shirts, wreaths, earrings, wind spinners, potholders, signs, garden stakes, décor, soy based candles and melties, freeze dried candies, and more. Bring your quarters for charity items and extra bidding. All-In-Paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6:00 and the Quarter Auction begins at 6:30. All ages are welcome to attend. Bubba’s Food Truck will be in the parking lot with food available for purchase. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion as well. Dalton City Concert

Grand Ole Opry veteran, Daryl Mosley, in concert at the Dalton City United Methodist Church, 200 East Freeland Street on Saturday, May 4 at 6 p.m. The community is invited to attend this concert by three time songwriter of the year as he shares the stories behind his many songs including the classic “Ask The Blindman, He Saw It All”.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
