Eggstravaganza
Courtyard Estates, in Sullivan, held an Easter event Saturday for the little ones. The event included an Easter Egg Hunt for children up to age 11, a 50/50 raffle, bike giveaway for each age group, food trucks, bouncy houses, and characters meet and greets.


The Hunt Is On
Sullivan First United Methodist Church held an Easter Egg Hunt on Friday afternoon at Tabor Park. It was a really good turnout of children ages 0-12 on a beautiful day.

Following the final meet of the Sullivan Blue Dolphins short course season held in Springfield, the team announced its Championship Team. The team consisted of 14 swimmers: Bryce Badman, Michaela Blickensderfer, Tyler Blickensderfer, Isaac Chambers, Emily Crosier, Aubrey Fultz, Addalyn Hendry, Asher Hendry, Avery Hess, Scarlett Perrott, Mack Pogue, Nathan Rafferty, Emerson Risley and Cadence Schmohe.

Thirteen of the swimmers competed at the 2024 PAWW Winter Regional Championship Meet held in Peoria. The team made multiple trips to the podium for placing in the top eight, and swimmers brought home medals in multiple events both proving and recognizing their hard work this season.
Two of the age group swimmers, Bryce Badman and Mack Pogue, continued on to represent the team at the state level at the Short Course Age Group Championship Meet held in Hobart, Indiana.
Two of the older swimmers, Isaac Chambers and Emily Crosier, represented the team at the 2024 USA Swimming Speedo Championship Meet held in Iowa City, Iowa.

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity is now accepting applications for its CSBG College Scholarship. Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2024. Applications are available at any C.E.F.S. Outreach Office and on our agency website at www.cefseoc.org. Minimum scholarships will be $1,100.00. To be eligible, applicants must meet Income Guidelines (based on gross income) listed on the application form and provide all documents identified on the application form. The scholarship is only available for those who will be attending an Illinois post-secondary institution and enrolled full-time. In a continuation of the discussion surrounding HB 5617, we take a look this week at the history of the name Sullivan uses for its identification: Redskins. Rep. Maurice West’s (D-Rockford) HB 5617 says “that a school board shall prohibit a school from using a native name, logo, or mascot that names, refers to, represents, or is associated with Native Americans, including aspects of Native American cultures and specific Native American tribes.”
Ask almost anyone in Sullivan how long the school has been the Redskins and the most common answer will be, “We’ve been the Redskins forever.” While it has been a long time, it hasn’t quite been forever. Read More

The Dementia Friendly Network of America has officially designated Moultrie County as Dementia Friendly Moultrie County. The county has achieved this milestone following extensive planning and collaboration among local leaders and partners since early 2023.
In honor of this achievement, Dementia Friendly Moultrie County will host an Open House on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, starting at 2:30 p.m. The event is at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library at 2 W. Water St., Sullivan, IL. Read More

Experiencing the return of warm weather and all that it brings is always refreshing. However, being prepared for this weather transition is essential to stay safe from weather-related hazards.
Due to its location in the Midwest, Illinois is no stranger to dramatic weather shifts, especially during the spring months. The state experiences various weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding, and even occasional snow and ice storms. Subsequently, the transition from winter to spring can be turbulent, with rapid changes in temperature and atmospheric conditions.
Sudden storms and severe weather events can pose significant safety risks to individuals and communities. Being prepared allows residents to respond quickly and appropriately to emerging weather threats. Preparedness reduces the risk of injury and property damage. Read More

The 2024 rendition of the annual Spores N’ More Mushroom Festival will be held Saturday, April 27. The festival boasts a variety of activities provided by partners Windsor Happenings Around Town, Shelby County Office of Tourism, City of Windsor and USACE Lake Shelbyville.
Kick off will be 10 a.m. - 2: p.m. on Maine Street in Windsor with food trucks, vendors, live music, morel mushrooms and more. A Mushroom soup lunch will be available at the Windsor American Legion.
There will be cash prizes for the biggest and smallest morel mushroom found in the State of Illinois from April 1-25 (at noon), 2024. Check in no later than noon on April 25, 2024 at the USACE Lake Shelbyville Project Office, 1989 State Hwy 16, Shelbyville, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
