Local student artists, writers, and filmmakers are invited to submit pieces to Through Their Eyes: A Holocaust Art and Writing Contest sponsored by the Holocaust Education Center of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation.
The deadline for submissions by 5th through 12th grade students who attend public, private, or home schools in Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Vermilion counties is March 22, 2024.

Illinois anglers who chase walleye, sauger or saugeye are invited to participate in the virtual Midwest Walleye Challenge in 2024. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has teamed up with other states, provinces, and developers and researchers at Anglers Atlas to launch this year’s competition.
Information gathered through the competition will assist Illinois in providing anglers with important data and add to biologists’ knowledge of various waterbodies.
“Competitions like this are incredibly valuable to our understanding of the Illinois fishery,” said Kevin Irons, assistant chief of the IDNR fisheries division. “And not to worry, anglers – we’ll never know the exact location of your favorite secret fishing spot. The Bethany Celebration Committee will be having a Chili Cookoff on Friday, February 16 at Bethany American Legion. Sign in is from 4 to 5 pm and the event is open to the public from 5 to 7 pm. Entry fee is $10 per chili and tasting fee is $5 which includes one bowl and three cups. Categories are spicy, traditional and unique. Make the best chili to win cash prizes. Students at Sullivan Elementary School gave back to the local food pantry by collecting items for the Souper Bowl. In a final push on the last day over 800 items were collected.
Rosati’s was up and running in Sullivan at 801 Illinois 32 inside Howy’s gas station. Fan favorites included Italian beef sandwiches, penne pomodoro, lasagna and the build your own pasta option.
Mirror Images was preparing to perform its 25th anniversary show at the Little Theatre On The Square in Sullivan. “A Day In Our Not So Normal Lives” was an all original show written by current and past Mirror Images members.
Sullivan’s lone senior girls basketball player Maggie Plank finished senior night with a final basket in a game against Maroa Forsyth giving the Lady Redskins a 70-56 victory. Read More

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins pulled double duty this past weekend with team members swimming in two different away meets. They had 25 swimmers competing in Terre Haute at the 2024 THT Arctic Blast meet. Three swimmers from the team brought home high point awards: Liam Donovan Open boys, Oliver Florey 8 and under boys, and Aurora Huber 6 and under girls. Liam Donovan earned a spot on the Senior State Team while at this meet. Read More
