The Moultrie County Historical Society recently received the Holocaust Pillar Award from the Holocaust Education Center and the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation. The award was presented to Pam Wood, History Center Museum Director, on behalf of the society. The award was in recognition of the special exhibit “The Auschwitz Experience in the Art of Prisoners” which was hosted by the History Center in May. Read More

Summer Employment Available

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is looking for qualified candidates to fill student vacancies for the 2024 summer recreation season. Lake Shelbyville offers a great work experience opportunity for those students who plan to make a career in biological sciences, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement.

Temporary student positions are available for graduating seniors and college students at the GS-02 level. These positions are available in Interpretive Services, Visitor Assistance, Facility/Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Stewardship, and Administration with an hourly rate around $15.30 and a 40 hour per week work schedule during the summer term. Candidates may be required to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Basic Requirements and Qualifications:

Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate

Minimum education requirement of high school diploma or GED

Good academic standing with a cumulative 2.0 grade point average

Transcripts and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter

Detailed resume showing eligibility for this position

Required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement

Pamela Rives Guyot, 81, of Sullivan, passed away 4:45 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Bjornbak officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan First Baptist Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Mrs. Guyot was born August 19, 1942 in Cairo, Illinois, the daughter of Charles E. and Guelda M. Glabb Rives. Pam graduated from Southern Illinois University/Carbondale with a BS in Business Education. She then graduated from the University of Illinois/Champaign-Urbana with a MEd in Business Education. Pam started her working career as a High School Business teacher at Herrick HS, Noble HS and Onarga HS. She was an instructor at Lake Land College, Mattoon and Job Retraining Services. She was a Computer/Industrial Production Liaison for Homeshield Industries and worked for several local attorneys during tax season. She retired from the Moultrie County Circuit Clerk’s office as Deputy Circuit Clerk. Pam was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan where she served as Trustee secretary, Financial Secretary, Memorial Fund Treasurer and former Sunday school/youth group teacher. Pam was a long time member of the Moultrie County Home Extension and was an avid flower gardener. Pam married Ben Guyot on November 18, 1967 at St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include her husband Ben; sons Trenton (Sue) Guyot of Webster Groves, Missouri and Brett (Leslie) Guyot of Sullivan; grandchildren Audrey Guyot, Andrew Guyot and Charles Guyot.

Barbara Ann Neuhauser, 56, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Sullivan, passed away at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday December 13, 2023 in her residence.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday December 18, 2023 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Rite of Committal and Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan High School Girls Basketball or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Barb was born December 2, 1967 in Decatur, the daughter of Carl G. and Dorothy Dean Kutz.
Barb enjoyed going to all her girls sports events and supporting their dreams, going to coffee outings and thrifting. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She married John C. Neuhauser on October 20, 1990 in Sullivan.
Surviving are her husband John of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughters Paige Leigh Neuhauser of Knoxville, Tennessee and Emily Ann Neuhauser of Augusta, Georgia; sisters Jennie (Gary) Houk of North Ft. Myers, Florida, Lori (Marty) Harbaugh of Sullivan and Sue (Will) Frick of Panama City, Florida; mother-in-law Patricia Neuhauser of Sullivan; sister-in-law Chris (Steve) Davidson of Aurora and brother-in-law Dan (Michelle) Neuhauser of Tolono.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in- law J. Calvin Neuhauser, III and her fur baby Milo.
Barb dedicated her life to her two girls and supporting her husband. She was a loving, selfless, caring, beautiful soul. She had a strong faith and the most positive outlook on life that inspired others.

Former Prairie Farms Dairy CEO Awarded Honor

In recognition of his lifetime of exemplary leadership and service in the agriculture industry, Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) honored Ed Mullins, former CEO of Prairie Farms Dairy, with the 2023 Charles B. Shuman Distinguished Service Award during the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago, Dec. 2-4. The award is the highest given by IFB.

Mullins began his career in the food industry in 1968 with Schulze & Burch Biscuit Company. During his 10 years with the company, Mullins was drafted into the U.S. Army and served 15 months in Southeast Asia and served as a military police officer.

After returning from the army, Mullins worked as general manager of PepsiCo in Marion for two years before joining Prairie Farms Dairy in 1980. There, he began a 42-year career, working up through the ranks and serving in many leadership positions before taking on the role of CEO in 2006. He was the company’s 4th CEO since its inception in 1938. Read More

LLC to host St. Louis Cardinals Caravan

Lake Land College will host the St. Louis Cardinals Caravan at noon on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024 in the Lake Land College Field House.

This event gives fans the opportunity to interact with members of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, including current and former players, broadcast talents and other familiar faces. Children 15-years-old and younger will also receive one autograph from each current and former player in attendance at the event. Read More

Christmas in Latin America
Sullivan High School Spanish Club celebrated Christmas in Latin America on Friday, December 1 in the high school commons. Students were assigned a country in Latin America and brought a dish representing a recipe from that country they also decorated Christmas trees themed to their assigned country. There was also a Secret Santa exchange where students using hints they had received throughout the week guessed who was their gift giver was while speaking in Spanish.

Houser Agency Makes Donation to Sullivan Legion
Country Financial representatives Elizabeth and Kyler Houser have made a donation of $3,000 to the Sullivan American Legion as part of the Country Financial Operation Helping Heroes. The donation was made on Wednesday, November 29 at the Legion. They have given to the police department and fire department as well as teachers and healthcare workers in past years. Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
