Collins Retires from Sullivan Fire
Adam Collins (center) was recently recognized for dedicating over 21 years to being a member of the Sullivan Fire Protection District. He started with SFPD on November 5, 2001 and served until he retired on December 1, 2022. Adam has dedicated most of his adult life to serving the citizens of Sullivan. He also works for the Sullivan Police Department. Pictured from left to right are: Jackie Collins, Boddie Collins, Adam Collins and Sullivan Fire Chief Larry Edwards.

MCHGS Grand Opening

MCHGS Grand Opening
The Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society held a grand opening at their museum on Thursday, May 4. The exhibit is called "The Auschwitz Experience In The Art Of Prisoners." The society partnered with the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation to bring the special exhibit to Moultrie County. The exhibition features artwork by 12 survivors who documented their experiences in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. The 24 panel exhibit consists of 60 pieces that depict the experiences the survivors had during the Holocaust. The exhibit has never before been exhibited outside of Europe and is on loan from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Oswecim, Poland. Pictured (from left to right): Rebecca Lawson, Natalee Hunter, Museum Director Pam Wood and Holocaust Education Center of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation Co-Director Robert Lehmann. During the grand opening, student Natalee Hunter shared her two film projects, each of which documented Holocaust survivors and their stories. Lehmann spoke about the Auschwitz Concentration Camp showing historical and more recent photos of the structures inside the camp.

SHS Girls Track Team Finishes Fourth

The SHS Girls Track Team had a very successful CIC meet on Thursday, May 4 hosted by Central A & M. They won 5 events and had 6 athletes that received All Conference Accolades for the first time in over 15 years. As a team they finished in 4th place with 115 points, losing to the defending State Champions of Tuscola and a very talented group of ladies from Shelbyville. First place finishes went to Cassidy Short in the Long Jump, Izzy Hay in the Triple Jump, Kharli Kelly in the High Jump, and the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays of Madalyn Booker, Cassidy Short, Alaina Moore, and Jalexis Bennett. They had a lot of double points come from our younger athletes, as it is a bright future for our Girls Track Team. The team will finish up their season in Bethany on Thursday at the OV Sectional. SHS Girls Track Finishes First at Redskin Invite

SHS Girls Track finished in 1st place with 134 points at the 10 Team Redskin Invite Monday, May 1. They had some outstanding performances to finish off their regular season heading into Conference on Thursday, May 4. Riane Bear finished 1st in the High Jump, along with Izzy Hay picking up wins in the Triple Jump and 100 Hurdles. Sofia Nuzzo also won the Pole Vault, while the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays of Madalyn Booker, Cassidy Short, Alaina Moore, and Jalexis Bennett dominated the field picking up two more wins. Bennett and Booker also swept the sprints with 1st place finishes in the 100 and 200. Point scorers are listed below. Read More

Moultrie County History Center to Host Holocaust Survivor

Holocaust survivor William Gingold will give a presentation at the Moultrie County History Center in Sullivan Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. as a part of the Center’s month-long hosting of the “The Auschwitz Experience in the Art of Prisoners” art exhibit. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the event is free.
“This year we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. We are honored to present William Gingold, a child survivor of the ghetto, as he shares his family’s experiences both during and after the war,” noted Dr. Brian Kahn, co-director of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation’s Holocaust Education Center, which has loaned the art exhibit to the History Center. Voegel Elected as Illinois FCCLA State Officer

Sarina Voegel, a sophomore at Sullivan High School and daughter of Nick and Ginger Voegel, was elected to serve as 1 of 5 Illinois FCCLA State Officers for the 2023-2024 school year. Her term began at the conclusion of the 2023 Illinois FCCLA State Conference held April 13-15 in Springfield, Illinois. With this elected office, she will participate in various Illinois FCCLA activities as well as represent Illinois FCCLA at many other events. Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
