Sullivan Elementary's first grade classes visited Ballard Nature Center in Altamont this month. At the nature center, students participated in a hands-on lesson about mammals and also took a nature walk through a variety of native Illinois habitats to view animals. This trip was the culmination of a weeks-long study on plants, animals, and habitats, and was a group favorite.
The students loved spending the day at Ballard and couldn't have done so without the gracious help from the Illinois Biodiversity Grant they received. Donors for this grant include the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Foundation, the D. F. and M. T. Grohne Family Foundation, and the Illinois Conservation Foundation.

American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Essay Winners
On Wednesday, May 24, the seventh and eighth grade winners of the Americanism Essay Contest locally sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary units of Arthur, Lovington and Atwood were awarded. The three winners were all from Lovington Grade School. First place was Joshua Taylor, second place was Maxton Boddy and third place was Jaidyn Edwards.

SHS Class of 1968 recently announcedthe Recipients of the Fifth Annual Redskin Achievement Award. The annual award was presented May 11, during the Decision Day program held in the SHS gymnasium. The 2023 Redskin Achievement Award Recipients are underclassmen Lexie Hay, daughter of Courtney Dyer and Kalvin Osborn, son of Ashley and Heath Ray. Each recipient received an award check in the amount $300, and an individual plaque acknowledging the Redskin Achievement Award. Their names also appear on a larger plaque housed in the school trophy case along with previous award recipients. Due to inflation, the Class of 1968 felt it necessary to increase the award from the original $250 to $300 and will continue with future Redskin Achievement Awards. Read More
Lash Named to Honor Roll

Colten Lash of Bethany has been named to the Honor Roll at Bethel University. To qualify for the Honor Roll, undergraduates must have completed 12 or more hours of academic coursework in the College of Arts and Sciences with a grade point average of 3.7 or above and no grade lower than a C.

On Friday, May 26, the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sullivan had a kickoff party for summer reading. Those wanting to participate could start reading for prizes on Tuesday, May 30. Those who read all 10 weeks will be able to pick a book for the library shelf wand their name will be written inside the front cover. Sullivan Country Club Celebrate 100 Years
The Sullivan Country Club held a 100 Year Anniversary party on Saturday, May 27. During the day there was a 9 hole golf scramble, food and drinks, a 50/50 drawing and live music. Musical entertainment started with a dj and then by Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos. Steve Jenne, Nancy Schaljo and Dan Flannell spoke briefly about some of the history and their experiences being members of the Sullivan Country Club.
