Stephanie Trussell Visits Sullivan VFW
Stephanie Trussell, running mate for Darren Bailey, made a stop at the Sullivan VFW hall on Thursday, March 17. Trussell was born in Chicago and raised on the west side. She has five children and in 1994, she and her family moved to DuPage County. In 2012, Trussell won a talk radio contest for listeners of WLS-AM 890, the largest talk radio station in Chicago. She beat over 100 other listeners and received a chance to host her own 2 hour radio show for a day. That one show turned into a seven year career. Bailey and Trussell are on the R ticket for the upcoming election in June. She is pictured with those who came to the Sullivan VFW to welcome her to town.

Four Local School Districts Awarded Grants from State

Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White has awarded more than $1.4 million in FY 22 School District Library Grant Program awards to 672 public school districts. More than 1.5 million Illinois students served by school library programs will benefit from the grants. Arthur CUSD #305 is a recipient in the amount of $879.34, Okaw Valley CUSD #302 in the amount of $850.00, Sullivan CUSD 300 in the amount of $951.55 and Windsor CUSD 1 in the amount of $850.00. Area FCCLA Chapters Meet for Conference

Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond FCCLA hosted a “Lots of Leadership” Conference at Arthur United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 8. This theme fits the FCCLA Tagline “The Ultimate Leadership Experience.” Eight students from Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School attended along with adviser, Ginger Voegel, and Illinois State University Student Teacher Rachel Lehigh. Sullivan City Council Approves Issuing Bonds for Water Plant Project

The Sullivan City Council held a special meeting Tuesday, March 22. During which they approved issuing bonds for the water plant project. Commissioner Doug Booker was absent.
A motion was made to accept ordinance 22-5 combined waterworks and sewerage system revenue bonds Series A and B. Treasurer Sarah Golden explained that Series A is for $8.5 million and Series B $2 million. The city is issuing the bond, and rural development will be the purchaser.
The bonds have a 40-year term, and if they close by the end of the month, the rate locks in at 1.25%. There is an additional request for another million dollars which will require the issuance of Series C bond. They are hoping that can be locked in at 1.25% as well. Read More

Pictured above is the Lovington Cigar Factory. It was located on the empty space in front of the car wash on State St. Lawrence Lorenson is the man in the suit coat behind the counter. The other two men behind the counter are probably Benjamin Alexander, cigar maker and Wilbur Ingle, clerk. The men in front are unknown. Circa1900. Easter Donation



News Progress


The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
