Southern Gospel Concert

Avenue Trio will be performing southern gospel music on Saturday, March 26 at 6 pm at Allenville Christian Church, 201 Allen St. in Allenville. The group is from Nashville, Tennessee. A free will offering will be collected. Finger food fellowship will follow the performance.

Bethany Celebration Pancake Breakfast

A pancake and sausage or biscuits and gravy breakfast will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 7 am to 10 am at the Bethany Firehouse. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for kids and free for ages 3 and under. Dine in, carry out and delivery options. Delivery is available for senior citizens in Bethany. Call or text 217-620-1897 for delivery. Orders will be taken on March 26 only, no preorders. Proceeds from the breakfast will go towards this year’s Bethany Celebration.

Easter Eggstravaganza and Bicycle Raffle

Courtyard Estates of Sullivan will be hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza and Bicycle Raffle on Saturday, April 9 from 11 am to 1 pm at 20 Courtyard Blvd in Sullivan. Egg hunt starts promptly at 1 pm. Please bring your own basket/bag. The egg hunt will have 10,000 eggs and there will be bicycle raffles for each age group (0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-11). There will also be Nolan’s Petting Zoo, Paddi’s Air Filled Fun, fire trucks and emergency vehicle from Sullivan Fire Department, IDOT plows, ARCH Air Ambulance, food truck and a 50/50 drawing.

Mobile Food Pantry in Windsor

The University of Illinois Extension, in cooperating partnership with Decatur Catholic Charities and Windsor School District will be having a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, April 13 from 4 to 5 pm at Windsor Grade School. Line up not allowed before 3:30 pm. A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. The distribution is open to all, not only residents of Windsor. Sign up by Thursday, April 7 by calling 217-774-9546 during business hours only of Monday-Friday 8 am to Noon and 1 pm to 4:30 pm. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you need to bring identification. The food will be distributed according to household size on Wednesday, April 13 from 4 to 5 pm at the Windsor Grade School cafeteria.

Richard ‘Huck’ Huckstep

Richard ‘Huck’ Huckstep, 72, of Sullivan, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 in his residence.

Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Reed Funeral Home. Burial with military rites conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68 will be in the Moultrie County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Memorials are suggested to the family.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net. The family request casual attire for the services.
Mr. Huckstep was born November 15, 1949 at Decatur, Illinois, the son of George and Faye Brown Huckstep. Huck had been a brakeman for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad and was a truck driver for 25 years for several trucking companies, most recently working for Wildman Trucking. He was a member and was Commander of the Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Huck was a Vietnam Marine Corps veteran.  Huck married Bernita McMahan on November 13, 1971.
Survivors include his companion Cheryl Wheeler and her two sons Ben and Rhett of Sullivan; his former wife Bernita of Sullivan; daughter Staci Huckstep of Sullivan; grandchildren Tyler Young (Jordyn) of Greenville, Illinois and Megan Huckstep (Steven Donaldson) of Sullivan; great grandson Boston Donaldson; brothers George Huckstep and Bill Huckstep, both of Decatur; sister Linda Huckstep of Decatur; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend Butch Davis who is like a brother to Huck and good friend Edna Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Edna Huckstep, several brothers and sisters,  and a nephew Sean Brightman.

LLC Historic Reduction in Tuition

Lake Land College is taking a historic step in support of its students and the community by reducing tuition for next year and making college more affordable than ever during a time of rapidly expanding inflation.
The Lake Land College Board of Trustees is expected to set in-district tuition at $100 per credit hour, down from $110.50, during the regular meeting on Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m. The new tuition rate, which represents a near 10% reduction, will go into effect for the Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 terms. The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
