Delano Yeakel, 73, of Arthur, passed away at 1:49 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 15, at the Arthur United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jill Bunker officiated. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in rural Sullivan. Edwards Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Read More

Joan Steidinger, 89, of Fairbury passed away at 7:08 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Fairview Haven Retirement Community in Fairbury.
Joan was born May 27, 1933, in Sullivan, a daughter of William H. and Gertrude (Monroe) Hostetter II. She married Calvin Coleman December 27, 1950, and later married James E. Steidinger March 3, 1968. Her husband, Jim, passed away March 15, 2022. Read More

Judith Rosalie “Judy” Bolduc, 84, of Longwood, Fla., passed away at 5:34 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Adventhealth Hospice Care Center in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Sabbath was always a special day in her life, and she was at peace the morning she passed away.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 2023, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Lovington. Burial will be in Ritchie Cemetery, Oakley Township. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Strong Tower Radio: P.O. Box 567 Cadillac, MI 49601. My wife spends her slumbers dreaming up ways to solve complex problems.
I merely dream up situations from which I cannot extricate myself and ridiculous scenarios involving work.
We both wake up exhausted, but at least her dreams are productive. Her sleep-borne solutions actually work in waking life.
She woke the other day and ask me whether she “dreamed” something or “dreamt” it.
She also wanted to know whether it was better to say someone “leaped” or “leapt.”
Those who watch a lot of BBC mysteries on Acorn likely prefer “dreamt” and “leapt,” because they are chiefly British irregular verb forms. Read More

25 Years Ago This Week

Lois Shuman, a kindergarten teacher in Sullivan, was named Teacher of Excellence by the Sullivan Community Education Foundation at its annual Teacher Recognition Banquet. The award included a $1,000 honorarium from the Foundation which Shuman could use for classroom materials. Major and mini grants were also awarded during the program.
The congregation of the Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan gathered to recognize the Rev. Paul McGhghy for his 30 years in the ministry. He served the local church for 13 of those years. Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
