Decatur Audubon Society to hold Zoom Meeting

The Decatur Audubon Society (DAS) invites members and other interested persons to watch online its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Due to COVID –19 resurgence, the DAS board has established a computer link (below) to watch the meeting. At 2:00 p.m. DAS President Melody Arnold will conduct a brief session of announcements then introduce the speaker, Jerry Culp, the new Executive Director of the Macon County Conservation District, MCCD, whose topic will be “Pothole Prairies and Seasonal Wetland Regions in Illinois.” Jerry will also briefly describe MCCD’s Vision for future years. OV Senior Night 2022

Fair Holds Annual Meeting

Moultrie-Sullivan Fair Board held their Annual Fair Board meeting on January 10 at the Moultrie-Sullivan Fairgrounds. 2022 officers were elected. Nick Voegel was elected president, Libby Spannagel as Vice-President, Dale Crawford as Secretary/Treasurer and Ginger Voegel as Public Relations. The Moultrie-Sullivan Fair will be held June 24-25, 2022. The tentative schedule for the fair will be published soon on the website and Facebook page. Improvements and use of the fairgrounds in 2021 were reviewed. Some activities held at the fairgrounds during 2021 were: reunions, auctions, meetings, weddings, and parties. Rental prices for the facility beginning January 11 were passed. Other updates that will come in 2022 for inside the building and some outside improvements were also discussed. An annual fundraising letter campaign was planned, which will begin later this spring. The website will be updated soon and the 2022 Fairbook will be uploaded in the next few weeks. Prior to this meeting the Moultrie County 4-H Center, Incorporated also met for their 2022 annual meeting. Gov. Pritzker Announces Illinois Plan to Lift Statewide Indoor Mask Requirement on Feb. 28

With statewide COVID-19 hospitalization rates declining faster than any other point in the pandemic, Illinois is on track to lift the statewide indoor mask requirement on Monday, February 28, 2022. Mask requirements will continue where federally mandated, such as on public transit and in high-risk settings including healthcare facilities and congregate care. Masking requirements will also continue to apply in all daycare settings. The state intends to continue masking requirements in P-12 schools subject to pending litigation which impacts a number of schools. As the CDC reaffirmed just today, masks remain a critical tool to keep schools safe and open. Read More

Youth Baseball and Softball Registration

Sullivan Youth Baseball/Softball registration for 2022 is now open. Signups are open now until Saturday, March 5 at 9:00 pm. SYB/SYS has leagues for many ages levels, beginning with T-Ball for children entering Kindergarten in the fall. The leagues are as follows:

Council Approves Resolutions and Agreements for Project

The City Council approved resolutions and agreements for the Bernius Street project during Monday’s meeting. Commissioner Chuck Woodworth was absent due to a work assignment. The first item was the approval of an engineering firm.
Only one firm, Milano and Grunloh, responded. The council unanimously approved the selection of the firm for the Industrial Way project.
A local agency company agreement for the Economic Development Program (EDP) grant. Lee Beckman of Milano and Grunloh, said that this is an agreement between the city and Bernius in regard to the job creation for the project that will allow them to get the grant funds and build the street. They can receive $30,000 for job creation and $10,000 for job retainage. They have EDP and TARP funds for this project. The council unanimously approved this. Read More

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
