SHS Athlete of the Month for October
Sydni Waidelich who was named SHS Athlete of the Month for October. The Athlete of the Month is chosen based on virtues of leadership, work ethic, academic achievement, service, and treatment of other students and players. Winners receive $20 in Sullivan Chamber Bucks and a certificate. “Sydni consistently has a great work ethic both on and off the court. I have never seen her have a poor attitude with herself or her teammates. In tough, pressure situations on the court she keeps her composure and encourages her teammates. For the last part of the season she was out sick for about a week. When she came back, she stayed on top of her school work and hopped right back into the volleyball routine. Sydni is a great role model for younger aspiring volleyball players. She is the definition of a great student-athlete!” Coach Davis said.

As global leaders met in Glasgow, Scotland, over the past two weeks to discuss the effects of and potential policy solutions to climate change, Gov. JB Pritzker made the case in a pair of speaking events that Illinois is doing its part to counteract troubling climate trends.
It was the governor’s first international trip, which took him first to London to talk with business leaders, then to Glasgow to attend the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP26.
“I’m here to say that in America’s heartland lies a state that’s taking strides to match the urgency of this moment,” Pritzker said, calling a recently-passed energy regulatory overhaul a “nation-leading climate plan.”
That climate bill, among several other provisions, aims to phase out carbon emissions in the state’s energy sector by 2045 by increasing investments in renewables and the state’s nuclear industry. Another goal of the climate bill and a follow-up business incentives package aims to put 1 million electric vehicles on Illinois roads by 2030.
The international visit was also an effort by Pritzker, members of his staff and Democratic leaders of the General Assembly to tout the state as a fertile ground for electric vehicle manufacturers. Read More

I am sharing this informative article by Extension Educator Robin Ridgley:
“It’s your turn to take the kids to practice after school today,” she says to her husband.
“I can’t take the kids to practice today, I have a late meeting,” he says.
“That’s the second late meeting this week!” she shouts.
“Why are you raising your voice?” he asks as he points towards her.
“Why are you pointing at me? You know it makes me crazy when you point at me!” she shouts. Read More
Dear Editor:
Recently, a former resident of Sullivan, Natalie Mauck McDowell, was killed in a car accident that simply didn’t have to happen. She and her daughter-in-law, Sarah, were hit by a person who was ticketed for not stopping at a stop sign.
So many people’s lives have been irrevocably changed by the failure of one person to take the time to stop at an intersection: the McDowells and extended family have lost a wife, mom, sister, aunt, and sister-in-law; co-workers and neighbors have lost a friend; Monticello students have lost a school nurse; members of the Methodist Church have lost a youth minister. All because a thoughtless person couldn’t take the minute or two that it takes to stop at a stop sign. Read More
