Charles Henry Sheridan was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, as the sun rose on September 24, 2021, the day after his 76th wedding anniversary. He lovingly bid farewell to his treasured wife, Marjorie Hamblin Sheridan, his daughters, Cynthia (Robert) O’Connor and Patricia McCray, his three wonderful grandchildren, Jeffrey McCray (Kelley), Laura Boillot (Paul), and Michael O’Connor, and his great-grandchildren, Reece Charles McCray and Baby Boillot, due in December. Local Master Gardeners Receive State Award

Volunteers of University of Illinois Extension’s Master Gardener program were recognized at a virtual awards ceremony on September 10. The annual awards ceremony recognizes the work of the 2,700 volunteers who provide horticulture-related assistance to their communities.
Master Gardeners are trained horticulture experts who serve their communities through service projects and delivery of educational programs. They “Help Others Learn to Grow” by providing research based horticultural information and sound management practices for home and urban landscapes. “Our local Master Gardeners play a vital role in our community”, says program coordinator Jenny Lee, “offering educational opportunities and answering many horticultural questions throughout the year.” Read More

Girls’ Golf
The Okaw Valley girls golf team tied for fourth with a score of 418 in IHSA Girls Golf Regional hosted by St. Teresa at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur Thursday.
Rohester won the regional with a low score of 350.
For the Timberwolves, Okaw Valley did not advance in the IHSA tournament, Junior Bailey Bennett carded a 97 to advanced to the IHSA Sectionals as an individual qualifier on Oct. 4.

Janet Wasson

Janet L. Wasson, 60, of Louisville passed away peacefully at 2:43 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at her home in Louisville.
She was born on October 1, 1961, in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Karen (Baugher) Rauch of Sullivan, Illinois. Janet worked at Quad Graphics, Effingham, as a machine operator. She enjoyed to travel, camping, outdoor activities, and loved humming birds. Janet loved her daughters very much and cared deeply for Nancy. She loved Bible Study and going to different restaurants.
She is survived by her partner, Nancy Frazier; 2 daughters, Martha Bales of Monticello, and Michelle Wasson of Mattoon; step children, Theresa Flota of Paducah, KY and Joshua Frazier of Louisville; her parents, Robert and Karen Rauch of Sullivan; sister Diana Ballinger of Neoga; brother Brian Rauch of Windsor; special friend, Tasha Dziesinski of Effingham; Mother-in-law Virginia Glover of Louisville. She is also survived by her special fur baby Max.
Janet was preceded in death father – in -law, Jack Glover.
Funeral services honoring the life of Janet will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Joe Smith and Ronnie Frazier officiating, burial will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home where friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Crossroads Cancer Center or Clay County Hospice. Due to health concerns related to COVID-19, it is recommended that you please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Elvin Edward Click, 64, of Sullivan, passed away 4:27 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the Sullivan VFW for friends and family to Celebrate the Life of Elvin. No service will be held. Burial will be at a later date in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Elvin was born February 10, 1957, in Shelbyville; the son of Glen Arthur and Nellie Naomi (Clearwater) Click. He served in the United States Army. Elvin loved Chevy pick-up trucks and his dog named Chevy. He was a jack of all trades and a master of none.
He is survived by sons, Jeremy (Heather) Piper of Mattoon and Justin (Elizabeth) Click of Greenbrier, TN; brothers, Gary (Kathy) Click of Lovington, Walter Click of Texas, Leslie (Lori) Click of Sullivan and Archie (Debbie) Click of Jackson, TN; sister, Patricia Durbin of Strasburg. Elvin is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Waterfowl Hunting Procedures Announced for the Okaw Wetlands

Due to high water this summer, all hunting in Okaw Wetlands and Whitley Potholes will be in accordance with statewide regulations. There will not be pit blinds or skid blinds available this year. The handicap blind in the Okaw Wetland will still be reservable this season, and is located in the same location as years past. Hunters not hunting in the handicap blind will have to follow the state minimum distance regulation of 200 yards between groups.

Chamber Welcomes Americorps Fellow to Staff

Sullivan’s SPARK program is in the process of being revived after COVID put it on hiatus. The effort is being led by Sequoia Cornell-Conner, an Americorps fellow, who has been assigned to the Chamber of Commerce to bring back SPARK and work on community economic development programs. Read More
