Cub Scout Join Us Night

Cub Scout Pack 6039 will have a join us night on Wednesday, August 31 from 6-8 pm at the Scout Cabin on the north end of Wyman Park. They welcome any boys from Sullivan, Bethany (OV) and Lovington in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. They are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as some new ones. They are also looking for volunteers/parents that are willing to help out for their big events, become Den leaders for the different levels and to just be supporters of the Pack. The Oakland Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 39th annual Fall City Wide Yard Sales in Oakland on Saturday, August 27 from 8 am to ? In conjunction with this the Hindsboro community, 6 miles west of Rt. 133 is also having city wide yard sales. Maps will be available at McQueen Lumber in Oakland. Zarek Michael Fultz, 18, of Lovington, passed away Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Zarek was born on August 16, 2004, in Mattoon; the son of Jeremy Hill and Candice Fultz. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hanging out with his friends. Zarek was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He is greatly loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Candice Fultz of Lovington; grandparents, Mike (Pam) Fultz of Panama City, FL, John Hill of Dalton City, Nancy Wendell of Lovington, and Leann Fultz of Decatur; great-grandparents, John L. Lofland of Lovington, Shirle

y Fultz of Sullivan and Keith Richardson of Sullivan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeremy Hill; great-grandparents, Romeo Fultz, Shirley Lofland and Joyce Richardson.

IDPH Offering a Back-to-School Shipment of 1 Million Free COVID-19 Rapid Tests for Illinois K-12 Public Schools

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced today it is providing a one-time bulk shipment of 1 million over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 rapid antigen tests to K-12 public school districts outside of Chicago for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. State of Illinois Adopts New CDC COVID-19 Guidelines for K-12 Schools and Early Education

With new guidance from the CDC that addresses the need to keep students in classrooms while protecting residents from COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) are adopting new operational guidance for schools and early education from the CDC that eases some restrictions while maintaining a core set of infectious disease prevention strategies as part of their normal operations. ‘Grow with Us’ State Fair, Butter Cow Theme a Nod to Agriculture, Infrastructure

Gov. JB Pritzker and Illinois State Fair organizers unveiled the 101st State Fair butter cow last Wednesday, an unofficial kickoff of the fair which began last Thursday and runs through Aug. 21.
The sculpture – by Iowan Sarah Pratt – consists of more than 800 pounds of recycled butter in the shape of a cow munching on a sunflower. It also pictures a farmer tending the land and growing sunflowers, one of which was eaten by the cow. “Recycled” means that the same butter is used for the fair cow for 10 years before being rotated out.
The theme of the 2022 fair and butter cow is “Grow with Us.” Read More

Hendry Siblings Place at AAU Junior Olympics

Hendry Siblings Place at AAU Junior Olympics
Asher (11) and Addy (10) Hendry of Sullivan qualified for and attended the AAU Junior Olympics July 28- August 1, 2022. Both athletes started swimming with Sullivan Blue Dolphins (SBD) in 2016 and have been swimming year round since.
They spent the last two seasons with Lakewood Ranch swim team of Florida where they participated in both USA and AAU team swimming. Their qualifying times allowed them to participate in the Championship meet in Greensboro, NC.
At the meet Addy swam the following events with placements on the podium for each event: 200m free-2nd, 100m free-2nd, 200 Individual Medley-3rd, 50m fly-6th, 50 free-6th, 50 back-8th.
Asher dropped time in all events; 200m free, 50m free, 200m Individual medley, 50m back, 100m free. He qualified for finals in 3 events and placed 5th overall for 100m back earning a trip to the podium.
