The Sullivan Redskins have dominated track the last several years. This year is no different. They went to a quad meet in Shelbyville and left with another victory. The win was thanks to many athletes who scored points on their way to a 106 point victory.

Recent Lewis University commit, Johnny Iacobazzi, continues to show both dominance and versatileness in various events. He finished second in the 3200m but captured the win in the 400m. He also ran two relays. For the 4x400, he was joined by Colt Wilson, Karson Ragsdale, and James Feldkamp. Iacobazzi and Ragsdale teamed up with Landon Jesse and Grant Martin for the 4x800. Both relays were first place finishers.

Revolutionary War Connections

•April 15, 2026•

by Janet Roney

I’m sure you all know that this year is the 250th anniversary of our country’s independence. Even though the first white settlers did not come into our county until 1826, fifty years after the United States began, we have at least three Revolutionary War veterans buried in Moultrie County. They are John S. Howell, Isaac Waggoner, and James Patterson. I’ll tell you more about them soon.

Besides these patriots, many of our early settlers were children and grandchildren of Revolutionary War veterans. One of those grandchildren was Samuel Washington Lindley.

You may remember from a previous article that Lindley was the son-in-law of John S. Whitley, the first settler in Moultrie County. He brought his family with Whitley in 1826 and settled along the Kaskaskia-Detroit Road in Whitley Township. The first sermon delivered in Moultrie County was at Lindley’s cabin in 1828.

Although Lindley was born after the Revolutionary War in 1788, he had very interesting Revolutionary War connections through his grandfathers, Dr. John Pyle and Thomas Lindley, who were neighbors in North Carolina before the war.

Lady Redskins take second as another school record falls

News Progress Posted on April 15, 2026 by webmasterApril 15, 2026

•April 15, 2026•

by E. Scott England

The Lady Redskins track team continued their success last week in Shelbyville. They finished second out of four teams, falling short of the host by 27 points. They still had plenty of dominant performances throughout the meet though.

Long distance is being owned by Julia Moody this year. Already breaking and then re-breaking her own record in the 3200m during previous meets, she had her eyes set on the 1600m record. A glance at the school records now will show her name holding both records. She broke the previous record by ten second, finishing the mile at 5:23.93. Moody did not compete in the 3200m during this meet.

by E. Scott England

Eighteen teams turned out at the 2026 ALAH Invitational. The Lady Redskins showed up strong with a command on many events. They fell short to the invite’s host, ALAH, but still saw many solid performances, including an invite record broken in one of the relays.

The 4x100 team has been on fire all season. Saturday was no different. Comprised of Tenley Campbell, Addie Patterson, Avery Renfro, and Mya Dyer, the four put on a display. The team passed the baton three times for a full time around the track in just 51.28. This was more than a first place finish though, it was a tournament record.
