Daisy Hill
Daisy Pearl Hill, 81, of Pana passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, in Heritage Health in Pana.
She was born May 14, 1940, in Sullivan, to Henry and Bessie (Dunn) Harl. Daisy married Jerry Lee Kidwell, and he preceded her on January 2, 1968. She later married Ronnie E. Hill October 3, 1984, and he preceded her in death February 4, 2007. Read More

Anna Fender of Sullivan has been named to the 2021 spring semester Dean’s List at Ohio Wesleyan University. To earn Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

Alexander W. Fritz, 25, Charleston has been charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a stolen/converted motor vehicle, and resisting a peace officer related to an incident which occurred on June 14 in rural Moultrie County. On June 14, Fritz was charged with one count of Armed Violence, a Class X Felony, which alleges that on June 14, while committing the offense of unlawful possession of a stolen/converted vehicle, Fritz was armed with a Ruger rifle. It is also alleged that Fritz resisted attempts by Moultrie County Deputy Robert Kidd to place him under arrest, resulting in an injury to Deputy Kidd. Read More

Sunday, June 13, was a Day of Prayer and Appreciation for Law Enforcement. The Highway Church of Christ, along with the community, wanted to let the officers know they appreciate all they do and support them each and every day while on duty. The Okaw Valley boys’ baseball team won another regional title this past week but could not parlay that momentum into a sectional win.
During the Class 1A IHSA Regional C, the Timberwolves knocked off Kansas 3-0 Friday, June 4, and then defeated Lincoln Prairie rival Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 4-0.
The Timberwolves advanced to Sectional 6 but lost to Farina South Central 7-2
Against Farina South Central, the Timberwolves fell behind 3-0 in the third inning.
Farina South Central scored another run in the fifth inning. Okaw Valley countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Read More

There are two (2) issues you addressed at the May 24 council meeting that I would like to comment upon. First, your effort to reduce the electric utility for Sullivan residents that are less fortunate and secondly, your comment regarding Sullivan not being able to compete with salaries, health insurance, and retirement offered by large electric corporations. Five contestants were vying for the title of Miss Lovington during the annual pageant. Vying for the title were Amber Atteberry, Misty Williams, Misty Smith, Diana Oliver and Diana Black.
An abundance of rain had put a damper on golf that spring at two of the three local courses. During that past May, 13.2 inches had fallen on the Sullivan area.
The Lovington school board discussed the rising kindergarten size during their meeting. A total of 35 students had been registered for 1996-97 school year and the district was trying to determine if this was a one time increase in class size.
Cadwell Road was being widened and resurfaced from Illinois Rt. 133 to Illinois Route 121 northwest of Sullivan and was closed to through traffic. The pavement was widened to provide two 11-foot-wide traffic lanes and eight-foot-wide bituminous shoulders adjacent to the traffic lanes. Read More
