Eastern Illinois University recently announced their Spring 2022 graduates. The 12th annual Dalton City All Wheel Extravaganza will be held on Sunday, July 31 from Noon to 5 pm in downtown Dalton City. This is a car, truck, motorcyle and tractor show. Registration is $15 and each entry includes a free t-shirt. Goody bags for the first 75. There will be food and entertainment, vendor booths, 50/50 drawing, silent auction and door prizes. There will be a trivia night fundraiser for the Sullivan-Okaw Valley football team on Friday, July 22 at the Sullivan American Legion. Doors open at 5:30 pm with dinner at 6 pm and trivia starting at 7 pm. All participants must be 21 or older. Trivia reservations are $20 per person or $100 for a table of six. $10 pork chip dinner tickets are available at Sullivan High School office, Moultrie County Treasurer’s Office and Chip’s Marine. Awards and prizes for trivia winners, best themed table and most team spirit. William ‘Bill’ Rauch, 90, of Sullivan, passed away at 12:26 p.m. Thursday July 7, 2022 in Shelbyville Manor.

The Moultrie County Retired Teachers Association met recently at the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan, IL. President Jane McKown welcomed members and guests before leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Connie Dunscomb introduced Jim Barr, representing the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. He announced that Addison Graham, Sullivan, and a Special Education major at Illinois State University, was awarded the Area 5 State Scholarship. Connie and Jim spoke highly of Addison and stated that he had received many excellent letters of recommendation. Addison was unable to attend the meeting. President McKown urged members to look at the IRTA Website for information on the Foundation and that a picture and a paragraph of Addison’s education plans have been posted there, along with other area winners. Lake Land College will be offering a new Crime Scene Technician program beginning in Fall 2022. The program is offered as a one-year certificate stackable with other Criminal Justice programs.
Crime scene technicians are in high demand with a 14% national growth according to Career Coach, and Lake Land College will be one of few institutions in the state to offer such a program. Read More

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is sharing tips to beat the heat because July is Extreme Heat Safety Month. “We’ve already had 100 °+ temperatures for several days in June, and it’s clear that extreme heat is dangerous,” said IEMA Deputy Director Scott Swinford. “Take precautions and reduce your risk to avoid heat exhaustion by staying cool and well hydrated.”
High temperatures paired with significant humidity can lead to increased risks of heat cramps, heat illness, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion.

Birth to Five Illinois, a new statewide regional and community system comprised of state and local staff and Councils, hired eight new Regional Council Managers charged with operationalizing equity, particularly racial equity, in early childhood. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is increasing the financial support provided to foster parents, caregivers and older youth in care to help offset the recent increases in cost of living expenses experienced by families throughout the state.
DCFS had already planned on providing these families and youth a 3 percent cost of living adjustment in the new fiscal year. The new, additional support of $14.6 million is supported by a decrease in youth coming into DCFS care and reuniting youth with their biological families.
“Foster parents and foster youth deserve our state’s investment,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “As living costs continue to increase throughout the nation, Illinois is working to provide needed resources to these vulnerable children. By increasing financial support to foster parents, caregivers, and young adults in care, we are standing up for our most vulnerable youth, and we will continue to do so.” Read More
