The third and final session of the Sullivan School Facility Forums was held March 28 in the middle school gym with about 40 people in attendance. This meeting focused on a referendum and 1% facility tax.
School Superintendent Ted Walk opened the session by telling the group, “Replacing the high school is the biggest project we will do in our lifetime.” He continued by stating that a new high school would cost about $27 million dollars. He said, “It costs ten million just to maintain every year, and that will only increase as the building continues to age and requires more repairs so, either way, there is a cost to a building that is over 100 years old. Bethany Fire Department received a page for a structure fire at 2:07 am on Saturday, April 2. It was a garage that was heavily involved. Crews were able to knock the fire down and protect the exposures. The cause is still under investigation at this time. Agencies that responded were Bethany, Sullivan, Mt. Zion, Findlay, Lovington and the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office.

The Findlay community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 1 pm behind the Okaw Valley Middle School gym. In case of rain it will be held in the OVMS gym. The hunt is for Pre-K through 5th grade and is sponsored by the First Christian Church in Findlay.

Sullivan Dance Studio Competition Team is holding a Drive-Thru Dinner with Griffins BBQ on Monday, April 25. Meal includes: Pork BBQ, Cheesy Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans & Loaded Brownie. Pick-up at the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan from 4-630 pm. Tickets are pre-sale only and deadline to purchase is April 13. A benefit for Laurie Robbins will be held Saturday, April 9 starting at 4 pm at the Sullivan VFW. Proceeds go to Laurie Robbins to help pay for her cancer treatments. Catering will be provided by Griffins’ and will be pulled pork sandwich with sides from 5 pm until gone, donations graciously accepted. Kids face painting and bake sale will be from 4 to 7 pm, live entertainment from DJ Angel 5 to 7 pm, Good Soup 7 to 8 pm and Shawn Dawson 8 to 9 pm. A silent auction will be held from 4 to 8 pm.
Pre-sale raffles include a lawn and garden raffle with a Agri-Fab utility dump cart with 750 lb capacity and John Deere broadcast spreader, 130 lbs tow spreader. Tickets are one for $10 or 3 for $25. Gun raffle is $10 a ticket for a choice of 9mm Canik Model METE SFT, store credit at Accuracy Firearms or $500 cash payout. All IL laws apply, valid FOID card. Raffles the day of the benefit are a 24 inch charcoal grill including 2 18lb bags of charcoal and 4 piece grilling set, a liquor bucket and 50/50 with chances 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. Other tickets are $5 donation, need to be present to win liquor bucket and 50/50. All raffle winners will be announced at 8 pm.
