The Broadcasting Club at Lake Land College recently collected several boxes of non-perishable food items to donate to the Lake Land College Laker Food Pantry.
“Nobody should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, and being a part of a community that takes care of their own is really one of the best parts of being a Laker,” Broadcasting Club President Stephanie Sample said. “I’m honored to have been able to participate and support the wonderful work that our food pantry is doing. I’m hoping that more people can become aware of its presence on campus and know that it is there for them if they need it.” Read More

I personally am not one to spend much time in the kitchen, but realize that it can have many benefits for children and their families – especially during the holidays. I would like to share this article by Extension Educator Amy Henschen that talks about all the benefits and how/when to have children help in the kitchen. Amy says: one of my favorite holiday traditions is my annual family baking day. Ever since I learned how to bake in 4-H, I’ve gotten together at least once every winter with family to spend time in the kitchen. These occasions are a great opportunity to celebrate community, foster relationships, create delicious treats, and share stories and family recipes. If you find yourself in the kitchen this holiday season, I challenge you to use this opportunity to introduce kids to the joys of cooking and baking.
It’s a great time of year to share your family’s food traditions with a new generation. Do you make a delicious holiday pie or casserole? Share your recipes and techniques with a kid in your life. While you’re at it, you can also share family stories. These types of informal conversations in the kitchen help improve family communication and strengthen our connections to our ancestors. Read More
